So tommorrow I "have" to go to DH's company picnic...
why is this is green living you ask?
well, as many of you know, my dh works for an agricultural chemical company - they sell pestisides, herbisides, fertilizers.... you get the gist!
So I will have to stand around all day tommorrow and "make nice" while they try to hand me all sorts of grilled meats on a bun, and I politiely lie and say "I'm not hungry", and listen to them talk about X farmer with X number of acres and what X thousand gallons of X they sprayed on it last week.
fun........ NOT
Reminds me of the time several years ago we went to a Farm Buereau meeting, and I was just beginning to get on board the earth friendly way of life. Anyway, the head speaker was a guy from Mons@ant@ who was going on and on and on and on..... about the wonderful attributes of the GMO industry and my dh and all the schmucks in the room kept standing and applauding him and what he was saying.... I never moved. At one point I actually leaned over to my dh and wispered "did I just say that out loud?"
I had been screaming at him in my mind, and I wanted to make sure I hadn't accidentally let it out.
so anyway, tomorrow should be loads of fun, eh?

Make of it what you can. I'm sure there will be other things than meat there to eat. Don't say you're not hungry. Just say 'no thanks'.

Just remember all the funny things that happen so you can tell us all here - in total honesty!! Take care!! You can get through it.

ahhh, take your own lunch box with something you'll want to eat & a bottle of water -
also, NEVER keep quiet about what you believe in.
if the opportunity arrises, tell the truth about how you feel -
my hubby took me to the circus once.... walked me right by the elephants..... and those stupid boxes with the world's smallest donkey - oh, my mouth just kept going & going & going & going.... but I said it TO my hubby.
Just make sure that while you say it to your kids or hubby, it can be heard by others

I agree...go make nice. Do it for hubby. This is what affords you your home and lively hood.
I too vote on bringing your own snacks/treats and eat something in the car before you get there.
BTW: We all want to hear about it afterwards tmrw...please don't forget to update us

I say go and make the best of it. But then again I've been known to get out of family obligations fast and at the last minute when I just have no desire to be there.

Or go and share with us what they talk about and we can laugh about it.

I would go and make nice too.
It is your DH's job and in this economy it is pretty nice to have one! For your dh I would also zip my lip. What purpose would it serve for you expounding on your opinion?........except to make your dh uncomfy.
If I am listening to total BS........but have to be polite (or don't want to bother to argue)....my comments are usually just "Really?".......or "ya, think?" or even- "no, I didn't know that"..........while thinking-- you are so full of crap that I won't believe it either!

I have sat thru many an international party bored to tears. It's 1 night and this is where your living comes from. Eat before you go.
Look nice, smile pretty and keep your opinions to yourself.

Yeah, that's going to be a long day. Eat before you go and try to keep your plate full with whatever you can find that's not meat.
Try my trick and make a Hamburger with everything on it BUT the meat. I don't think anyone will notice.
And just bite your tongue it's not worth the trouble it will cause for you at home.

well - it wasn't so bad for the food issue.... but is was B O R I N G!! Thankfully, it was so boring that my hubby couldn't even stand it after a few hours.
There was a buffet with 3 kind of meats ?!?!?! and green beans heavy with bacon, beans heavy with bacon. I did, however, have a plateful of salad and rice pilaf. oh,, and lots and lots of bottled water. The kids all swam, so while hubby chatted with everyone, I sat and watch the kids by the pool.
I chatted with the different wives that came over by the pool thorughout the day..."do you work out side the home?" how old are your children?" .....yadda yadda yadda
glad that's over!
