well..... I ate a burger........ (bleh)
I have been enjoying a purely vegetarian diet since March. I haven't missed meat one littel bit. Now I know why!
A few weeks ago, a friend came to visit from the Midwest. In an effort to show her "all things California", we took her to In&Out Burger. It's a quintessential CA burger joint. I thought, "I'll just get some fries and a drink" (they ONLY serve burgers, fries, pop, and shakes). Next thing I know, my friend ordered me a burger........ OK, "I can do this" I thought. I went ahead and ate it. As I was eating it I was thinking I would rather have a huge fat slice of tomato in place of the burger!!
As I ate it, it wasn't good, it wasn't bad.....it was just ok. I certainly didn't miss meat, but I didn't hate it either......
HOWEVER..... after I ate it, I felt gross!! My gut felt nasty and kinda churnned for most of the afternoon.
And this may fall under the category of "TMI", but for the months since going pure veg, I have been, shall we say, MORE than regular, KWIM?.... every single morning!! This ding dong burger messed that up for about a week!!! Might be my imagination, or a coincidence.... but I'm chalking it up to that dumb burger.
Me?? I'm veg forever - no looking back!!!!

After not eating for a while it can make you kinda sick. You body got a shock it wasn't prepared for and you got an emotional battle. Praying for you.

It goes back to what and how they make the burgers. It's full of chemicals. I have found even eating a burger out i feel bloated and feels like i have the flu.Not to mention visiting the bathroom alot.

In-and-out Burgers are made fresh from 100% beef. They are (supposedly) nothing like any fast food burger you've ever had. We have Five Guys around here, who are the same way, nothing ever frozen, meat and potatoes sourced locally. No chemicals or fillers.
But like AngelB says, your body wasn't ready for that much meat. It will take a few days to adjust your digestion to handle it.Use it up, Wear it out,

100% beef what?? That's the question. I have been eating ,occasionally Lauras 96% lean beef grilled. I feel lubed and oiled if i have another kind. And no not your imagination. I get sick and not reg. when we have pop. And I can smell the diff. in my sweat. My veg GF 10 years ago said she could "smell" it on her DH when he ate meat. I was ready to send her for a little vaca stay at a special place but now I can tell too. It is the chemicals. Bizarre but too true.

Had a similar experience this summer. We went to Margarittaville. I figured, I should eat a cheeseburger here, right? Oh, what a mistake that was!

I am afraid to test the waters and try to eat it at this point. I won't lie, the smell of grilling meat is tempting but the thought of stomach upset keeps me from trying. I do know what your saying because since totally giving up dairy I now have that same effect if I do eat any dairy. I had some butter that made me ILL!Ruined my night ill.
And yes you can smell meat in your body Oder. I know this because both my husband and I now have a different natural oder.

I have to say I miss In-N-Out Burger so much!! We wish they were out here! Very fresh. Whenever we go back to CA it is one of the stops we MUST make! But, I can surely understand if not having meat for that long it would make you feel sick, and at least now you know you made the right decision giving it up.

BTW- In and Out will make you a veggie burger (just veggies on a bun) or a cheese sandwich. You can even have the no carb burger (wrapped in lettuce leaves)
They are pretty good about trying to accommodate you.

I'm afraid that might be how my body would react if I ate meat and I've only been vegan for 3 months.

Sounds like you made the right choice for you. At least you tested it and found out.
Boy do I ever miss the In and Out..........wish they would come up here.
Also, miss the fish tacos too..........had those in San Diego and loved them.

Well now you know that you have made the right choice for yourself being a veg!!
I have thought about it really seriously for the past 3 years but I am just still not sure. Maybe I could do a test run and see how I feel after a week of no meat. I am really not a big meat eater.
