I noticed that female chef "Alex" (working with Anne Burrell) was cutting tomatoes into thirds and throwing the stem third away! A third of the tomato! How can they be talking about throwing away perfectly good food while they themselves are throwing away perfectly good food?? AARGHHHHH

And have you ever watched those "Master Chef" competitions?
The Master Chef in charge inspects the cooking creations of the competitors, and if his wrath is aroused, he throws that food (along with the dish or pan) into the garbage can with a huge crash. Just to underscore the rejection of the competitor's creation.
APPALLING!!!

I saw some of the show last week. The fruit and vegetables that were left behind at the orchards and farms were mostly ones that people threw on the ground at the pick-your-own farms or in one case was corn that the stalks were pushed down to the ground and people won't bend over to pick the corn. The farms shown made compost out of the wasted produce.

I just said to my MIL today "I live off the produce on the half-price rack at the store! I will find things to do with the bruised stuff!" I was appalled at the whole thing. Maybe if you live in an area where people want nothing but pristine veggies, you can toss whats less than perfect. I refuse to pay full price for produce!

They don't offer marked down produce here. When they take it from the shelves it goes to trash or compost, I'm not sure which.
I asked about it last year, because I wanted it for my own compost, and was told they could not give it to me.Use it up, Wear it out,
Make it do, Or do without. ~unknown
