    Default Organic Clothing

How many of you have bought or have considered buying organic clothing?

Or do you hit clearance racks at the mall? I used to be a serial clearance shopper.

Or do you just prefer to go second hand?

If the latter, when it comes to nicer, "fancier" clothes, i.e., business attire, church/wedding attire, special occasions, do you also buy those second hand?

    And lastly, what about intimates?

Personally, I'm all about either. 75% of my clothes are second hand, most hand-me-downs or cast-offs from friends. But if I had the money, I'd definitely go organic, especially with undies and such.

What do you mean by organic? Do you mean natural fibers from animals/plants that have been farmed/raised organically?

If so, then yes, I have considered it. But a jumper style linen dress here is $200CAD. No WAY can I afford that! So I buy clearance or thrift store instead, looking for natural fibres I can afford there.

I also find the clothing made that way is often sized to fit thin people, and I rarely find anything I can fit.

Sorry, that was a vague statement. Certified organic cotton, sustainable bamboo or hemp clothing, or something similar.

I agree sometimes the prices can be staggering. But I also find that many department stores have similar styles with the same price tag! And with regards to sizes, you can definitely find all sizes, you just need to find the right company that caters to real people instead of just yogis.

Don't know about clothes but I bought a set of organic sheets ( Certified organic cotton ) on sale a few years ago....about three I think. Only set of sheets I've had in my life that actually wore out and I do mean literally. Threadbare. Only took about a year and a half and no they weren't the only sheets used on the bed.

I'm not bothered by organic clothing. I do frequent the REI and moosejaw site to drool over the latest gadgets lol. I do see the expensive organic clothing on sale frequently- but off season and more casual type clothing. I did buy a cute summer dress that's 100% organic from REI for our family photos. Ended up paying $14 for it and I'm now a XL- so it's doable if you look in the right places

I have owned bamboo clothing...i found it got stretched out in the wrong places...for a 50 buck tshirt and 100 dollar pants...it wasn't worth the money I paid... there are some awesome quality brands...I do buy Hanna Andersson for Sophie and myself...it washes so well and I have passed on many sets to my niece that has been bought used by Us and well loved. i find the stains come out really well.

I will go for organic clothing. I am also a serial clearance shopper. I do not want to have second hand :-/. I will be conscious about intimates.

I never wear second hand cloths and I wish that time never come.

WHAT??? I knew there was a reason I didn't want to try them.......the pair of sheets I have on my bed right now is probably 15 years old.

But........I won't ever buy any egyptian cotton (think it is).............they pill.........after about 6 months I got into the sheets and it felt like BUGS at my feet!

As the owner of a company that sells organic and eco-friendly t-shirts, hats, and baby clothes, I can vouch for the fact that organic clothing does cost more. However, that's one thing that we at Happy 2be Here are trying to address. People deserve a healthier alternative without having to pay an arm and a leg for it. We set our prices to be right on par with non-organic brands (even cheaper in some cases). We want to promote a positive message while being kinder to our planet and our bodies, all while making it affordable.

We hope other companies will start to do the same, even at the risk of a much lower profit margin because if people start buying organic, the prices will go down and everybody wins!

I'd love you to check us out at www (dot) happy2behere (dot) com and let us know what you think - even if you don't buy anything! We can only get better if we know what people like/don't like. If you do want to try out some of our products, we'll give you 25% off your entire order if you enter coupon code FRUGALVILLAGE at checkout.

I'm thrilled to be part of this forum and hope to find more deals, and hope to see more eco-friendly companies take notice and become more accessible to everyone!

I don't seek out organic clothing, but I like the comfort of natural fiber clothes -- linen, cotton, silk, wool.

I debate on the footprint of Organic everything, if not local. It is a learning process for me. I found this info:
India, Turkey, Peru, China and Africa currently grow more organic cotton than the United States does. What does this mean? It means that the next organic cotton T-shirt you buy was likely grown hundreds of thousands of miles away, shipped around the world to be processed, then shipped to a retailer and finally to you. That’s a big carbon footprint for one T-shirt!
