Do you think they should genetically modify foods
Yes or no. Why or why not?
You probably all know my answer and that is a resounding NO! I just don't feel they should play around with our foods, be it grains or any type of food we put in our mouths. It annoys me that they can do this, and it not even be marked on what we are eating.
How about you?

nope I don't.
Of course if it was MY decision I would only eat what I grew myself! However my city dh will not even consider raising animals to eat. I can do as much in a garden as I want though, and I am hoping next year to have a huge one!

Just wondering, what is, or is there a difference between genetically modified and hybrid plants? Cuz I know many things are hybrid and have been for a long time.

No I don't like it. I am torn about the part where we can get things like insulin from plants and etc though. That could be very helpful.
Every time we mess with "mother nature" we pay the price. The "killer bees" (africanized honey bees) for instance.

Well I'll play devil's advocate here .....
My dh sells farm seed to the farmers for our living. I don't have a problem with genetically engineered foods (plant foods) at all, and to be quite honest we've been eating them for a long time.
Did you realize that they can make plants (corn, cotton, sorghum, soy beans, etc.....) that are resistant to disease and pests? In doing this they have cut down the need for deadly pesticides which are a MUCH bigger concern of mine. They also are working on hybrids (yep Kim,
) that don't need as much water (a huge concern for our area), fertilizers (see pesticide concern above, ditto here), and almost all other treatments that can be deadly or cause awful diseases in animals (including humans). The farmer who farms for a living will for the most part continue to use these treatments, pesticides, and fertilizers because they can't afford not to. They can't make a living (for the most part unless they have optimum growing conditions 100% of the time) otherwise. Genetically engineered foods (hybrids) are here, they've been here for a long time. What's your fav. tomato? Is it a hybrid?

Way back when, when I was vegan, I remember reading something somewhere that stated that the hormones that were given to cows to either boost "meat" mass or increase milk production was adversely affecting kiddos...I remember then, looking at Katie who had begun her "cycle" at age 11 and had been wearing a "real bra" since she was 9 and thinking that they must be right - my baby was all "hormoned up" from the milk & red meats she had consumed her whole life....
Not intentionally, but Belle became the "practice case" of sorts - she was never a "cow milk" baby - we used soy milk with her instead & she's been about 98% vegetarian since she was teeny - the result - at age 9, she's a whopping 48 pounds, about 44 inches tall, and couldn't hold a bra up with fence post, nor can I begin to imagine her menstruating any time soon....
Coincidence - perhaps....but....
Renee began whole milk (not by *MY* choice) at about 7½ months old and will practically eat whatever isn't able to crawl out of her way fast enough....she's almost 7, weighs almost 60 pounds, 46 inches tall, and will probably follow in Katie's footsteps with everything else...
I'm not convinced that the milk/meat consumption of chemically enhanced/genetically altered cows are not to blame.....all of this to say - (bet you were wondering, huh?!) I dont like the thoughts of folks toying with my kiddos foods....I don't want to feed my family foods that have been sprayed with poisons either...I wish I had the option of eating only what I grew with my own hands, but that's not possible any longer...
*SO* ~ NO! Don't like folks messing with my food!
