Question Do you recycle for cash?

I have been saving all of our aluminum cans lately and just wondered if anyone else recycles anything for money. I never used to do it before, but I thought this helps the earth and helps me too.

If you recycle, what do you recycle?

We have a wonderful recycling program here.   I recycle, all plastics, newspapers, aluminum cans, pop cans/bottles, glass, egg crates.     They also have a place to drop off paints and spray cans and any household item that no longer works.    And they have a drop box so that you can drop off anything you want to send to goodwill.

Here you don't get cash for taking anything in.     But recycling is BIG business in our province.

We have recycled aluminum cans for over 19 years- for cash. I had a difficult pregnancy with my first child, and was off work - dh was in a farming accident and off work. Neither of us had medical insurance, etc. We started walking the road sides for cans to have money to buy stuff like toliet paper and so on. After we got back to work, and the baby came- we took the recycle money and bought the kid(s) savings bonds.

We have a "bottle bill" in Iowa. You have to pay a .05 deposit on most drink containers which you get back when you turn them in. I've just started saving food cans to be recycled. We have a big bin here in town for recycleables. My problem is where to store the stuff while it's waiting to be recycled.

We recycle with the trash by separating the garbage from the paper/plastic/cans and then another for yardwaste. That is 3 cans in total. When I first moved here, It was hard to decide what to put where and I never thought I would get used to it, but it is habit now. I save all of my newspaper and aluminum cans and we recycle when we get lots. I dont know how much I have, but will eait until close to Christmas to do it.

We dont get any money back from the trash tho~ supposedly it is cheaper in the bill but at about 60.00 every two months, I dont believe it.
