yes, we have no rubbish
I just thought I'd have my brag here!
Just before Christmas DH and I decided to get rid of our kitchen bin, so we did and it's been great! The bin was stainless steel so went out to be recycled. We still have a wheelie bin outside that gets emptied by the council but I don't think that's anywhere near being full.
We only have a very small yard but we have a compost bin into which goes the contents of the bunny litter tray, which made up most of the volume of rubbish as well as veg scraps and stuff.
We had already stopped buying most disposable stuff such as bin bags - we just use the big sacks the animal food comes in or biodegradable bread bags from our local shop (we usually empty these into the bin so we can reuse the bag again too.
Our council takes away paper, cardboard, metal (including foil), plastic and glass to be recycled. So by the time that's gone there's not much left. PLUS our kitchen now has a load more space!

I have come across many UK sites while browsing recycling and such online and I must say I am extremely impressed with what I have seen (much better system than what the county I live in offers) and the sites seem really encouraging to citizens.

Yes, over the last couple of years there has been a great improvement as far as recycling and other forms of waste management goes. But this has been spurred on by government targets that all councils must meet by a certain time.
I am very lucky in that my area seems to be ahead of the game, as schemes are not the same countrywide, last moth 69% of rubbish was recycled which is pretty good I think.
I just hope that this trend towards recycling will be coupled with government guidelines to the food (and other) industry regarding packaging etc but I am not holding my breath!

I am jealous! We used to generate next to no trash. Mostly recycling. But our wonderful city government decided to save money by cutting back on what we can recycle
We still put out very little compared to the rest of the neighbourhood but it is still way to much for me.
