    Default carob chips?

Does anyone use carob chips in place of chocolate chips? I haven't tried them yet, mostly due to price. How do they taste? (Are they an 'acquired' taste?)

I've used them many times and didn't notice that much of a difference.

There's a tiny difference but I doubt that most people would notice it if they didn't know it wasn't really chocolate. To me they have a slightly muskier flavor and they melt a little more watery feeling in your mouth than chocolate chips do (eating one plain), but I doubt that you'd notice it in a cookie or something. I like carob- coated raisins and they do taste different from Raisinettes, but I think it's because they aren't as sweet as the Raisinettes, and you have the slightly different melting feel in your mouth, but I like 'em!
