    Question Vegetarianism & Allergies

So how many out there who are veggies (or relative veggies) have food allergies (or families with)??

It sounds horrible & can be super difficult, but here are mine:
-lactose deficiency (began in adult-hood - so lack of some protein & lots of calcium / vit. d)
-allergic to Soy (lacking another protein base)
-allerigic to MSG (no chinese or most asian foods)
-lack enzyme to digest meat (main reason I'm a veggie)

I'm sure there might be something else I'm forgetting! :giggle:

But that's me... more or less.
If I eat ice cream (really the only dairy I consume) - I have to take double the dose (on the package) of a dairy supplement.
Otherwise, I can't eat Soy in it's natural form... including beans/pods, oil, lecithen among others.
-It causes migraines (same with MSG).

So what do I eat for protein??
Nuts, seeds, protein bars (yes I exercise too)... rice & other grains as well as most green veggies have plenty of protein. So I'm not lacking one bit!

    How about you / yours?

okay and to add onto my own post
*grumble, grumble, pitch a fit & moan*...

i forgot to add onions/garlic to my allergies.

How do you tolerate your allergies / intolerances either in being a veggie or w/in your household (not necessarily only for veggie-heads like me)

I'm lucky I guess in that I'm not allergic to anything (as far as I know) so I'm not in a situation where I have to work round things.
I have never had any problem in accommodating people's needs or desires foodwise - as long as I know in advance.

My main "difficulty" is that when I say you don't eat meat then people almost always offer you something with cheese in. I have never liked cheese and so people then assume I'm a vegan and it all gets far too complicated.

I only know one person that has a food allergy, I went to uni with someone who was slightly allergic to peanuts. Everone else I know eats the way they do through chioce.
