Default a way to save 203,000 barrels of oil each year (interesting tidbit)

    http://www.seventhgeneration.com/sit...88609&ct=97071

If every household in the U.S. replaced just one 48 oz. bottle of petroleum based dishwashing liquid with our vegetable based product, we could save 203,000 barrels of oil, enough to heat and cool 11,700 U.S. homes for a year!
Seventh Generation dishwashing products are tough on dirty dishes, but gentle on your hands and the environment. Our products are non-toxic, and biodegradable, and never contain chlorine or phosphates. We offer them in both scented and Free & Clear versions.

Our natural dish liquid gets your dishes sparkling clean yet is gentle on your hands and the Earth. We use only ingredients that do not pose any chronic health risks and are safe for the environment.

Our dishwashing liquid is better than ever! The ingredients didn't change, we just improved the formula to make it more effective. The result is a 90% improvement in cleaning and 40% more suds than our previous formula.

    Non-toxic
    Biodegradable
    Hypo-allergenic
    No dyes
    No fragrances
    No petroleum based cleaners
    No phosphates
Safe for septic and greywater systems
    Not tested on animals
    Kosher certified

This is the dish liquid we use in our home. I was poking around on Seventh Generation's website the other day and found the oil info quite interesting.

Fantastic! if I could get hold of the stuff I would use it!

I read about their products and they are very pure, someone I read about uses one of their products for washing their hair/body/clothes the "Full Monty"

Now if that ain't a money-saving-space-saving thing to do, I don't know what is

We don't get it in the UK , but I do use something equally "green" and PC

Our health food store is finally carrying this brand, but they haven't had it on sale yet (I've been buying the Seventh Generation on sale). Glad to hear a good review of it though and I'll be keeping an eye out for it to be on sale.

We use Dr. Bronner's as kind of an all-purpose (shower gel, washing hair, some laundry items - I make homemade and use for most because Dr. Bronner's is not cheap here, handwashing liquid). http://www.drbronner.com/

    Very interesting.

I think as consumers, no matter where we live, are going to have to start looking at new alternatives when it comes to household items. If we can save that many barrels of oil, it quickly adds up.

We always think something (oil) is going to be around forever. We never stop to think - will it? We do the same thing with water - we use it like there is no tomorrow, kwim.

Next time I'm in the health food store, I'm going to see what they have. Thanks Kim.

It's a great way to save oil. We need to be mindful that there is a limited supply of oil, I think I heard it is about 30 years worth left in the known reserves.

I hope all countries work together to promote alternative energy sources soon. I know a lot of work is being done - there is a solar car race on here at the moment, we have wind power plants and lots of solar power, but more needs to be done. The most important thing for us to do is to reduce our oil consumption, not just because there's not much left, but for the health of the planet.
