my Island's recycling
I find that In PEi we really recycle everything, i was looking at other places in Canada, and theres not much left to waste, which is great, we get newsletters 2 to three times a year. We have waste, compost, blue bag #1-paper, blue bag # 2 metal and plastics. At first it took time to get use to, but I love it now, and as soon as hubby sees and kind of boxes aor materials we don't use, chuck and recycle, we bought plastic conatiners at dollarama for cereal. and when we buy stuff for kids lunches, granola bars on sale, boxes have to go, doesn't like clutter. lol right down to christmas paper and orange cartons

Last night I was having dinner with the in laws when BIL said Ma recycles Eso much that we should get money back from the town. Between the 2 of us.. she only puts out 1 trash bag every other week!
Crack us up! She lived through the depression days and has a use for everything.
We figured is should be like selling energy back to the grid.

I really wish Calgary had a better recycling program. It seems no one recycles here because we do not have a curbside recycling program. So sad.

I just got back from PEI. I was sooo confused about their garbage policy. I let my brother-in-law handle anything I couldn't figure out. I'm glad I was only there 2 weeks!
OTOH, there is a so-so recycling program in SK...voluntary of course. If you pay $35/mth., you can have Blue Bin come pick up some trash. Without Blue Bin we have access to SARCAN to recycle plastic, glass and tin, newspaper bins at strategic locations around town, and clothing bins at strategic locations around town.
Other than that you're on your own and dealing with private companies or paying. For example, the city collects Christmas trees to make mulch, but you have to pay for the mulch. And once or twice a year they have a paint recycling day where you take in old paint for disposal.
You can donate old computers and electronics equipment to a guy in private business, and he retrofits them for charity or resale. And of course you can donate to any of the secondhand stores.
It's okay, but I wish everything was located near each other. As it is it sometimes takes us a long time just to do our recycling. I'd be happier if everything was in one recycling center, so to speak. It would make it a LOT easier on everyone.

Cheryl that great, 2 into 1 bag.
Tulip-so sorry to hear that, I love it now. Its so easy when u get use to it.
Peanut- i hated it at first, it was hard at first so many rules, what u could put in and what u couldn't, especially the numbers, always checking the numbers 1-5 on plastics is recycling , 6 and 7 can't its waste. Anything that doesn't have number I chuck out.Its almost 200 dollars now ayear toward the electric bill so we can have this plant. And almost evryhting goes across or to Ontario. We recycle the compost on PEI.And we have to pay for that if we want it by the load. sometimes twice ayear u get it free. They should give it o everyone free, but thats the goverment. They do pick up the trees.
