Cloth Hankies
We recently made the switch to cloth hankies. I bought one just to try it out and realized all it was was a 10 x 10 inch square of white flannel. I went out and got some flat baby blanket, crib sheet material, cut it out in 10 x 10 squares and voila .. hankies.
I had a bit of trouble getting over the idea of them but since switching are garbage has really been reduced. And they are so much softer too. And they only get softer with every wash.
Anyone else like cloth hankies?

I don't use them myself, but they were all my mom and dad used them....I think that they are more elegant looking than kleenex, but I would never get dh to use one!!

We like them ... they don't self-destruct the way a kleenex does. Unfortunately, though, they're hard to find ... and spendy. Apparently, the old designs are collectibles.

I love them. Carry nice ones for hygienic purposes and worn/stained ones for use on such things as getting the radiator cap off in the car or cleaning up spills or a myriad of other things. My dad was definitely a handkerchief man, and it was, well, handy - no pun intended.

Ok I got the cutting part but when you cut these squares do you sew the edges?

My Mom has a sewing surger that I borrowed. The first one I got, I bought it off the lunapads website .. I forget how much it was, maybe $3. I liked the flannel. Without the surger, you still may be able to fold the side down a bit (like on a cloth napkin) and sew them in.

Thanks for sharing this idea. Over the past several months, I have become very interested in moving away from all the the paper products that we use. I think I would like to make some to have around the house.

DH had a dozen unused hankies in his "stuff" when we got married. I believe they were meant to put in the suit pocket (whatever that is called) for his orchestra so I saved them and a few months ago switched to cloth hankies completely. I LOVE them!!
No more buing Kleenex for me, I'm the only one needing them anyway (I always have the sniffles in the morning).

I am the only one in the house that uses them but I only use mine at home.

We had to switch for my son. He wipes his nose obsessively when he has a cold and ends up tearing the skin off of his upper lip. We give him extra soft cloths now, either really worn t-shirts or the cloths made for cleaning musical instruments.
I want to switch because I'm actually allergic to kleenex, but I keep forgetting. I have fancy handkerchiefs in my purse but I can't bring myself to use those.

Dumb question, do you wash them with other clothes or just have a hanky load? I just keep imagining finding a booger lodged in a shirt collar or something.
