We done went vegan!
We ate a mostly ovo-lac veg diet, then we watched "Fast Food Nation." Not the best movie, but after watching the killing floor scenes
we made the decision not to participate in this anymore. This is day 3 so far. Please wish us ease as we make this transition. Any tips would be welcome from the vegan-veterans!
Thanks for reading!

Fast Food Nation was made into a movie? I just finished the book, I don't think I could stand to watch the movie

This is awesome! Let us know how it goes. If it weren't for fish and yogurt I'd be vegan too.

Good for you!! When I read the book, I only got to the killing floor part I wept for hours and didn't touch meat in two years.

I used to be vegan but I am l/0 now. I should be a vegan, but the cheese is so hard to give up! I still need to see that movie. I have the book.
Good job!

Thanks for the support!
Had vegan "butter" which was just great on my toast. Melted really nice. Also tried soy "ice cream" and am pleasantly surprised. We are doing it! Bought a bento style box for my husbands lunches at work (got the idea from a post here somewhere about "veganlunchbox.com") and it is going to really help keep him on track.

I don't think I could give up meat forever. I like my chicken too much. I would have no problem giving up beef.

Good for you! My son was diagnosed allergic to dairy about 1 1/2 years ago {causes ear infections and colds} and I've discovered so many dairy free options. I just use these products instead of cow's milk in recipes and not one of my other kids even noticed. I was buying both types of cheeses, milks etc, but it became a hassle.
You do actually develop a taste for almond milk and cheese, yogurt etc.

One thing to watch out for. They've found that too much soy can interfere with your thyroid, so try to find other sources of protein.
I'd be a vegetarian, but I can't give up fried chicken. I know how things are processed. I've seen hogs and cattle butchered. It's not a pretty sight. I haven't read "Fast Food Nation", or seen the movie. All the butchering I've seen done was done humanely. They were killed swiftly, and felt no pain. I don't believe in the method where they cut the jugular and let them bleed to death. Having your throat cut hurts! I think that's just cruel.
If you had ever seen how chickens are processed, you wouldn't eat them either. Look up "fecal bath" on Google. If you think fast food nation is bad, wait 'til you see the description of that!
I used to raise chickens, and I couldn't kill my own. I'd barter with a man down the road by giving him a few chickens to keep to have him butcher and clean them. All my layers were named. So were my roosters. I could never have eaten any of them!

Still going strong!
Frankly, I am surprised that I really haven't had too much trouble. Honestly, giving up the high fructose corn syrup is harder for me. That stuff is everywhere!

You can do it!
I decided to go vegetarian about 8 months ago, it was supposed to be for a week, and I just kept on, and about 3, maybe 4 months ago now?, Anyway I decided I don't really care for eggs and milk anyway so I'd just cut them out too.
This one is proving to be a bit harder. The veggie cheese I find has milk in it, so I finally ordered some vegan cheese and ranch dressing, vegan-aise and sour cream. The cheese was what I miss most.
And I had a guilt dream about eating chocolate kangaroos filled with meat LOL
I make a lot of things here at the house, and have become an ingredient reader.

Good for you! I lean vegan, but cook lacto-ovo for DH. Please keep us posted on how it goes.
I've been reading "Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating" and the health benefits of a vegan diet are astounding. Talk about the power to heal!
I went vegetarian after reading Fast Food Nation. Nothing tastes good enough to make it worth the amount of suffering it takes to put a piece of meat on my plate.
