Container Houses
~I saw these last month in Reader's Digest. This site seems to have alot of plans and pictures. Container houses are made from recycled steel cargo shipping containers. Pretty cool! http://www.fabprefab.com/fabfiles/containerbayhome.htm ~

And cool does NOT decribe the inside. They are hot! In the southern climates the metal exteriors heat up and hold the heat. Even when they are coated with stucco or someother coating the metal still heats up. AC costs go up to cool these. Much better for northern Climates where heat isn't an issue.
Have spent time in them in the islands where they are used out of nesscisty, but are usally placed in shady locations if possible to try and hold the heat down.

I wouldn't want to live in one of those. They are ugly and I bet you couldn't stay either cool or warm in them.

I saw one of those on HGTV on "Extreme Homes". It WAS pretty cool. There's an artist in L.A. who lives in a junkyard (he does junk art) in two or three (I forget) of them put together.

I've seen a couple and they very nice looking! In a cubist sort of manner! But I love stuff like that. Anything that keeps stuff from going to the landfills. The ones around here are easily cooled and heated, well insulated and nice on the inside. Some of them have teak wood or bamboo inside on all four walls.

What a neat recycling idea!
