Default $0.03 discount for reusable shopping bag

So I saved an extra three cents today by using a cloth shopping bag at the grocery store. Yay! I remember when they first started with the discounts and you could get 10 cents per bag, I think this was at Whole Foods.

How big of a discount does your grocery store offer?

Our stores so far offer nothing extra for using your own bags however I use my homemade cloth bags all the time because I dont want the plastic in my house.

Kroger and Whole Foods give .05. I read that Walmart is supposed to do it too, but when I asked, they looked at me like I was crazy and said they had never heard of it.

The Kroger I shop at gives me .05 per bag. I'm not going to get rich off it, but I figure I am getting paid .05 for something I would do anyway, so that is good!

Our stores do nothing, but at Sav-a-lot, they will CHARGE you $.03 a bag if you don't bring one, so I guess bringing your own is like saving $.03.

Our Giant Eagle used to. My daughter loved it. So few people did it that they forgot to give you the 5 cents until after you cashed out. So she would end up with 25 cents in her pocket.

No discount at our Giant Eagle, but I did purchase 4 of their bags. They hold 3 to 4 plastic bags worth of stuff, and there's nothing to throw away. I also take the Giant Eagle bags to Aldi with me.

My first trip, the guy behind me complimented my bags, then asked me where I got them. Mind you, there is a HUGE Giant Eagle logo on the sides...

I just saw reusable bags at walmart this week, perhaps no one knows about it yet. I didn't know if you got a discount, I'll have to ask. I might be going there soon.

Our Fred Meyer (Kroger) has great reusable bags available. Last week during a remodel opening they had them 2/1.00, I bought 10! They are great, very durable, easy to carry and don't tip over in the car. They give .05 rebate for each bag you use.
I take them everywhere I shop!

Oh I have seen them at Kroger, but I don't shop there very often. I have not heard of a discount there either. Supposedly they hold twice as much or more than a disposable bag too. I think I want to get some, not just for the environmental benefit, but also because I live upstairs and I could use half as many trips. Win-Win situation

I shop at Raley's/Bel Air and they give a discount of $.05 per bag. I have a couple of cloth bags that I got for free and reuse paper ones.

Stores here (in CO) discount .05 per reusable bag; Wild Oats (now owned by Whole Foods) also gives you an option of a "wooden nickel" to drop into one of their donation boxes on the way out, so that they donate the .05 to charity.

Don't think our stores do anything. But Wegmans sells awesome, really really strong grocery bags. Not even sure what they're made of, but I love them and they're just 99¢. I have 2 that I can usually fit most of my groceries into.

We got 2 of the re-usable bags from Fred Meyer & I really like them because they hold a lot of items as well as being better to use for the enviroment.
