funny grocery bag story
So, I'm at Walmart this weekend buying everything my son needs for his trip this week. As the cashier begins to ring up my purchases I say " I have my own bags I'd like to use". She replies "for what?" She was serious. She didn't know what I wanted to do with my shopping bags. I told her they were for my purchases. She was shocked. I said it's ok, just hand me the items as you ring them up and I'll put them in the bag. I really confused the poor girl. She tried to put things in the plastic bag before handing to me to put in my canvas bag. {why even bring a bag if I'm still getting plastic?}
I walked away laughing.

Youth!!!lol Don't you just love it.
Try handing them a penny to round up an amount. I've had them stand there and get that deer in the headlights look.

That's why I haven't brought my own bags with me yet, it throws so many of the cashiers off. I don't understand why the store wouldn't tell the employees that some people prefer to bring their own bags instead of getting the plastic.

We havent had any problems up here at a locally owned grocery. I suppose maybe there are more than just a few of us using cloth totes for our groceries. We just put them on the counter where the groceries are going to go and they just start putting them in our bags. I even have one with a plastic bag in it for meats and frozen ice cream and such and these kids up here need no instruction.

I take my own bags, the sweet kids though, do put my meat in plastic to keep my bags clean. I just make sure they only use maybe 1 bag for the meat. Otherwise they would wrap each package in 1 bag and still use 10 bags!

When I was in High school I worked at a grocery store, with in just a few months I became the "trainer" becuase I was the only one who could count change back. I would get so frustrated trying to teach them how to do it. I was 16 and teaching adults how to count change.

LOL that is such a funny story. If I don't bring my own bags to this one store, the kids working there give every item it's very own bag! It's so nutty! I really can't have plastic bags in the house because inevitably one makes it into the bedroom and the cat starts batting at it at 2 am

want to really throw them for a loop? Bring a wicker basket with you, which is what I did. I was just picking up a few items, and its so easy to walk around the store with my basket, it has a nice sturdy handle, and I don't need a cart. But the biggest plus is it sits in my Van without rolling around. Anyway, the young gal who checked me out just couldn't get over it, called another cashier over to see my basket. Now it is a nice basket, actually much nicer than those 2 handled things stores usually have for us to use. I guess anything out of the norm really throws today's youths , but shouldn't they be doing the same? After all, isn't this their planet as well? Maybe this is something we should start teaching our young ones. My children were brought up to recycle, it's all they know, there fore they do. Maybe more of us should set the example.

Maybe that's why they were teaching me to become a cashier management/trainer when I left Kmart at age 18! lol... I went to public school, but they taught us that stuff (or maybe my mom did?) in Wichita Kansas! lol!

I keep my bags under the sink in a stockpot I don't use anymore ( for reasons we won't go into involving spaghetti sauce) My cats will actually open the door and pull out the bags, crawl in them and peek out the holes where the handles are. If they get really bored they start batting at imaginary things outside the bag. Sometimes they just scare me. These are the same ones that sit and watch paint dry lol.
