Nothing says 'weirdo' like cloth shopping bags
~I've been making a conscious effort to remember to take my cloth shopping bags into other stores than Aldi. People don't think you're weird for bringing bags there. I remember only about 10% of the time and I'm trying to do better. I'm just so tired of the staring and the weird comments at the other stores. My mom seems to run into people who are happy with her choice and I get all the weirdo looks. Maybe I should stop shopping late in the day when I'm tired and want to be left alone, lol! How do people react when you whip out your bags?~

I use the stores bags because I use them to recycle my trash and use for projects... I've not seen anyone use tote bags brought from home yet... but I'm sure I will soon.
Personally I dont use a tote... I use the ones I get at the grocery store as a kitchen trash can liner and when I shop at Costco they give you boxes, which I also use to load up with yard clippings and also my kitchen trash bags.
I don't recycle because cities in my area who have the majority of people recycle, many have ended up getting bad about it and even fining people for not recycling correctly or as they wish and the fines had to be paid before the city eould resume their trash pickup.
I think this is ridiculous, so I use whatever I have and that would be boxes and plastic bags from the store.
Maybe stores should go to boxes as they are nice to use for cleaning out the yard and hold more stuff because they're stronger.

Nobody flinches when I use mine. And mine is a huge, bright orange Home Depot canvas bag! It holds everything!

Too funny this thread popped up today. I just started using mine last week. Someone gave me a bunch of bath & body works stuff as an engagement gift and it wasn't a scent I liked, so I went to exchange it and when I did I got a free tote bag. I took it as a sign to start usign it for my eggs and milk runs. So far no looks but I use self checkout usually.

I have a variety, some bought, some made. No one flinches, and stares. Mind you, I'm not worried even if they did...lol.
Law of attraction in work, I don't care what others think, so no one voices their opinion on it. Maybe because you're anxious about the comments, you're unconsciously inviting, while your mom feels it's a great thing, so that's what she's attracting?
I've seen it alot. My one daughter is always worried some one is going to be negative about her, she's always meticulously groomed, hair always neat, and ALWAYS some little brat comments on something to make her feel bad. My other daughter has a wild mass of curls that is always a mess..lol. She thinks it's great, she loves it, and she always gets comments on how people would pay hundreds of dollars for hair like hers, or that it's so cute. I think it's a rat's nest most days..lol. But we can't wash it daily in the winter, and you can't brush it when it's dry! We do what we can.
Perhaps don't worry about it, think of it as saving the landfill from plastics that don't break down. You're being a responsible person in lessening your footprint on the earth. Be positive! can't make everyone happy.
Most of the clerks are fine with me dropping 10 bags on the counter. Those that aren't I just tell them to let me finish unloading my groceries and I'll help them bag, and they are usually all smiles from there.

I don't bring my own bags, cloth or otherwise...but, if I did I wouldn't let what other people thought bother me.

I don't use cloth bags because I use the plastic grocery bags as trash can liners. But I've noticed that many of the grocery stores around here are selling their own store brand shopping bags.
M55FF - there's not even a recycling center or pickup in my county so I don't do much recycling here. In the neighboring city they have recycling in just some areas and people have to PAY to recycle! Isn't that just the craziest thing you've ever heard!!!!
