    Default Joined the CSA..finally

we finally joined a local CSA! i am excited to know that i will be getting super fresh local organic produce every week from may something to nov!! you also have to work some on the farm so maybe i will learn enough to get my own garden running next year.

plus i paid upfront so i dont have to worry as much about the rising price of produce :surprise: of course we will probably need to supplement here and there

i had to look it up, community supported agriculture. i guess you pay a share at the beginning of the season and get an alloted amount of crops as they are harvested... i think. im not sure.

Andrea, you are right! This is the second year for us, I loved all the veggies, though I did get a little more swiss chard than I needed! It is an option for us to volunteer, so I will be doing that this year....means NEXT year, I will get a discount! Also, we can take extra produce, and I want to freeze and maybe can some things...I may be asking for help in the future!
    Enjoy your CSA!

Whoo eee....too rich for me. Ours is anywhere from $500 to $1100 for 20 weeks of produce

    I like the concept though.

Congrats! You won't regret it if yours is as good as GrowAlabama.

We pay $156.75 a month for weekly home delivery. We do absolutely love it though. Ours also sells eggs, butter, and chicken. (all from organic free range grass-fed animals) Each month we buy 4 dozen eggs, 2 pounds of butter and 2 chickens. We get a list each Monday and you choose what you want for delivery on Tuesday. If you say "no" to an item then you can get an extra of a different item.

Believe me, the taste is out of this world and you just cannot beat front-door delivery. We don't plan on ever dropping out.

Do you get yours delivered home or do you have to pick it up from the farm/farmers market?

They don't have the CSA anywhere near me. I was going to look into doing this if they did.

geckoace--congratulations on joining! We love ours. We get eggs and goat's milk products too. I heard that they might be offering local sustainably-raised (and organic) beef and pork through neighboring farms. Yay! It really is much more delicious. Has anyone heard that reducing meat consumption by 20% eating local meat is equivalent to switching your vehicle from an SUV to a Prius?

Also--geckoace: your April goals cracked me up! I want to "yell less" too.

i will pick mine up at the farm which is shockingly close to my house cause i live in a city.

ours does not offer milk, eggs or beef. i looked at a couple of others around here and none of them do, im jealous what a great opportunity cause organic meat is killing me at the market.

i also have to do 7 hours on the farm (or you can pay more) i am excited to do that because i can also bring my son and i think it would do him some good.

we eat so many veggies and fruits that this will actually be a money saver for us.

i have heard that about meat, i reduced my consumption but i really need some vegetarian cooking lessons to help us out, i would love to go meatless 2 nights a week but all i can manage is pasta does fish count?? i can do fish.

my april goal to yell less has not been going that well i need to post a sign on the wall to remind me to take a deep breath
