My children only trick or treat at the houses of friends and family, those people who could give them a cookie anyday of the year !!!!
We do not take treats from strangers !!!! So if they get a cookie or an apple, they can have it ..............

We are really careful about whose house we go to. Only neigbors and friends, but yet I still check over the candy - old habit I guess.

I only let my kids trick or treat in our own neighborhood where I knew everyone but I still checked each and every piece of candy. Now that my kids are too old to trick or treat I miss those days of costume making and braving the cool night to take them trick or treating. They sure grow up fast
.
Blessings,
Kathy

Check it over, for both of them, and then have a mass trading session.
DS is allergic to red#40, so he gets nothing red, pink, purple, blue or orange. DD has thin enamel on her teeth, so she gets no hard or extremely sticky candy. I have a bag of Nestle Crunch's--pricematched with coupons
-- that I trade for the offending items, which then go into DH's lunch bag.

Yes, but we go to the downtown merchants, who have a HUGE trick or treat party so I believe that all of the stuff would be fine awy way. We also visit a few neighbors.

We trick or treat at the mall and the community trick or treat fairs where they set up little booths and you walk from booth to booth getting candy. Still check the candy though.

Our town has a little Halloween like carnival uptown. Most of the stores dress up and give candy out to the kids and I still check it cause you never know about things when it comes to your kids. Better safe then sorry.

Yes! How else would I get all the good candy?
But, always throw away any candy that the wrapper is half way off or it's opened. Also throw away candy/cookies that's been homemade.
