Default What are you doing for Halloween??

I figured, since we have an "Anyone Preparing for Christmas?" thread, that we ought to have a Halloween thread, too!!

I am too far out in the boonies to have trick-or-treaters, and I don't have kids to design costumes for, but I do love the holiday. I designed a little Halloween pin/magnet for the occasion, and I may try to replicate it for my craft booth.

I also am starting a washcloth, and I'm using orange and black as the colours. Looks very Halloween-ey!! If I am successful with this washcloth, I may try to design a new pattern in the same colours, but specifically for the holiday.

What are you doing or planning?

I will be doing a party for our family and friends. Generally some of the neighours stop by too. We do it every year. We do alot of decorating, so much that trick or treaters stop and take pictures of their kids in our yard. We all eat and then take the kids tick or treating together, there is usually about 10 adults and 15-20 kids. On the menu is slimy snake sandwich, devilled eyeballs, open face pumpkin sandwiches, witch fingers, eyeball dip with blue corn tortilla chips, spider cupcakes and whatever else I can think of. LOL

Here are some pics of last years party. (I don't know if it will work, I've never posted pics in a thread.)
Can you tell that I love Halloween?

mmm, let's see...I have so many ideas rolling around right now. Last year we decorated the kids' playground/club house & turned it into a haunted house - the kids had so much fun with this last year,so we'll probably make it a yearly habit...we have a variety of scary movies to watch....& a few games like Pumpkin King & Boooopoly.(Games & movies we'll spread out over the month of October)...decorating areas of the house...have a pumpkin hunt (plastic pumpkins to put toys/candy in & are hid like easter eggs)...I made little bags to put halloween toys/candy in....I think I'll be making most of the halloween toys this year - taking wooden pegs & turning them into halloween characters with paint - crocheting finger puppets. Making a few jack-o-lanterns & letting the kids draw pictures on the patio with glo-in-the-dark chalk.
As far as crafts go...I need to finish a reversable halloween quilt,I've made a gothic ball gown for barbie (crocheted) made Halloween jewelry & a gothic t-shirt (took a plain t-shirt & crocheted black lace w/ skull beads into the seams around the neck & sleeves)

You guys are great!! Danni I love your ideas and pictures and MH - pictures please of your creativity. Want to visit both your homes for the holidays!!

We do all our celebrating at school. In 28 years, we've never had a trick or treater at our home. Lahaina is well known for its celebration - over 10,000 partygoers squeeze into our little town and it gets crazy. Was fun when we were younger, but will pass for now.

I am part of Hayategg's Halloween swap and am enjoying getting ready for that.

Awesome pics Danni!!! My dh and dks love to go all out for Halloween! They put up a graveyard in the front yard and have a great time decorating! This year we are having a small (I hope) party since the kids are too old to trick or treat!

Great ideas, everyone. I love Halloween, though I'm never as prepared, when it comes, as I like to be. This thread has got me thinking ahead!

We love Fall and Halloween so we always decorate the house. Mostly indoors because we live in a windy area and all of the outdoor decorations get blown away, and we never get trick or treaters here. So we really "do" the inside of our home.

Also, I love making the kids costumes. My 6yr old ds wants to be a robot!!!!! I think this will be a really fun costume to make and frugal too. One year we made him an airplane w/ boxes and silver spray paint. My ds 13 likes to help me.

We usually make a halloween cake or snack too. Our town has a great area that we go to trick or treat and the firehouse holds a hotdog bbq!

Can you tell we love this time of year?

I just decorate for the Fall with my own corn shocks that I grew. They go out at the front gate of the driveway. If I find a good buy on mums, then I also add those. I always have a jack-o- lantern on the front porch even tho I'm out in the boonies lol
I made a wreath years ago with grape vine and store bought length of fall colored leaves
Inside I decorate with my Witches that I collect. And autumnal colored candles.
I make my children's favorite foods to remember them by. And I go on Halloween night to the graveyard and drink a beer and pour some on my son's and father's graves. I also place a plastic jack-o-lantern on my son's grave and light it with light sticks.
I decorate my Alter in the Fall colors of orange, green and black. I place autumn colored leaves from my woods along with acorns and indian corn and some wine on it also.
And thats pretty much my Halloween traditions now.

I'm making a pirate costume, it'll be a girly pirate. A white(can be worn after halloween) peasant top, with a "corset" in skull fabric, a striped tutu in black and red(or co-ordinating with the corset) and an over skirt with the go-go boots. Of course a bandana and we'll see what we can do for large hooped earings, but her ears aren't pierced.

DD12 wants to go to school as a model. So we'll put something "haute couture" together at the good will store.

DD10 - no idea and ds15- not sure. He went as a kid from happy days, like Cha-chi, even had rolled candy sigs in his tight white t-shirt sleeve. The teachers got the reference, but no one else did..lol

We don't get trick or treaters as we go to MIL and FIL for the evening. I always have a few packages though as I do a mini party with the kids I care for. and incase we have a few early birds.

I am never as prepared for Halloween as I would like to be so this thread was a great idea to get me started. My just recently turned 13 y.o. didn't really want to go trick or treating last year but I forced him to take his brother so I know he's done this year (which to me is probably a good age to be done anyway). That said, it might be a good year to put together a small party/gathering, especially with Halloween falling on a Saturday. I think I'm going to go browse for some fun frugal ideas for what I'd like to do. I really like the sandwhich snake and the witches fingers' that Danni. ..... off to browse.....
