Costume ideas for almost 2 year old?
I'm trying to think of a good costume idea for Gavin. His birthday is January 3rd, so he will be almost 2. He doesn't watch TV, so he isn't into any characters or anything. Last year he was a dragon....ideas anyone?

Oh gosh...HE LOVES books. He probably has 10 favorites. Um...there is a lion book he loves, 5 little monkeys, a ladybug counting book, really any counting book he loves...a couple Barney books *yuck lol*. ABC123 books, pop up books, you name it this kid loves it. He would be happy if we did nothing but read all day long.
<3 him
I'll have to think about the book angle! Maybe a lion? Worried about the hat/hood thing though.

he doesnt have to keep the whole costume on . most kids dont -
what about a brown sweat pants with brown sweatshirt with a hood on sweat shirt - add a monkey tail on monkey ears from felt or other craft intem using a few stiches of thread so you
remove the tail and ears and have useable clothing for fall winter .*~Debbi~*

What about a lion? Em at that age wore a pair of subdued yellow pajamas (the kind that zip up the front & have feet). I painted her face and attached a tail. She was adorable.
I think the skunk idea is cute too.
Edited because I read back & saw you already suggested a lion, lol. I didn't put a hat on Em but she had big blond curls at that age so I just "biggified" them to look like a mane (do you like that word - my 16 yr old uses it all the time:-)Last edited by JessieMom; 08-14-2010 at 10:20 AM. Check at Babies R Us--they carry outfits that can be easily converted to a costume for Halloween.
Wesley's 2nd Halloween, we bought bib overalls, a western themed shirt, little boots, and a cowboy hat. My brother had a leather fringe vest he gave Wesley and I bought a stick pony. He was a Cowboy. Then the rest of the year he had a shirt, boots, and bibs to wear.
Another year, I bought a shirt with a pirate skull on it, made some black sweatpants ragged at the edge. I bought a pirate hat, sword, eyepatch, and an 'earring' at the birthday area in Target.McD

I've decided Gavin is going to be a cat. He LOVES cats. Even if he won't wear ears, I can paint his face with a nose and whiskers. A tail is easy peasy, so I think that's what we'll do. I need to figure out the body though. Maybe just sweats?

Yep, just sweats. It makes things easier that way.
Clown - bright colored sweats or sleeper, randomly stitch on felt circles, put makeup on their face if they will allow it, and some sort of hat (whatever they will allow, ones with pompoms on top look a little more clowny)
skeleton - black sweatsuit, poster board "bones" (I used a skeleton from the dollar store as a template), safety pin the bones onto the sweat shirt, black knit hat if they will wear a hat
cat - black sweatsuit, cut black ears and a tail from felt, pin on the tail, black knit gloves, stitch or pin the ears to a black knit hat, draw whiskers on face with a black eyeliner pencil
alien - grey sweatsuit, grey knit gloves, grey knit, cut eyes out of black felt and stitch them on the knit hat
race car driver - red sweatsuit, thin yellow reflective tape, put the reflective tape as "stripes" down the sleeves of the shirt and make some stripes off to the side on the front (if you have leftover, put a stripe down the side of the legs), helmet of some sort (doesn't have to wear it) and a toy race carBeak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998
