It has really grown in the last few years in Winnipeg. People from all walks of life have their yards decorated to the hilt, in fact often more so than at Christmas. Out here, there are a few decorations, but not as many. Last year there weren't near as many kids that came around for candy.
We don't do Halloween in anyway, but I'm curious as to how big it is in your area where you live?
Not all that big. People tend to decorate more for fall here and then add a little Halloween in, but it's tastefully done - not overboard in my view. I have a couple of friends here with younger children and they do more inside and out, so I guess it depends on the family dynamics. Because of where we live (on a dead end) we don't get a lot of children - only the kids of friends of ours. We're not even staying home this year because DD has a party to go to and we're going to drop her off and then go pick up our DS from college and go out to dinner with him. I kind of miss seeing all the little kiddies all dressed up though, now that my kids are older ... guess I'll have to wait for grandchildren! LOL No pressure on my ds!
Last year at the old house we only got 1 family, they were our neighbors and we were pretty close with them friends wise.
This new house is on a major street so i don't know how it will be. I plan to keep the lights off though I do not do halloween myself.
I do not decorate outside for anything much, but some colored lights at christmas. I do decorate inside a lot for christmas though.
(but my angels and creches stay out all year long)
It's not that big here, I notice that just the houses withsmall kids have decorated outside, but not a ton at that...
I do notice pumpkins outside the houses that aren't decortaed, and they aren't usually carved or anything.
I have decorated a bit inside, still haven't done anything on the outside and I probably wont...I'll just leave the light on for trick or treaters until around 8o clock...The less money I spend on this holiday the better i figure

I've noticed a LOT more Halloween decorations in people's yards this year. I'm not really fond of it myself. Several people have covered bushes with cobwebby looking stuff and many people have these witches that look like they've crashed into a tree, house, etc. I personally find it quite tacky!
