Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease?????
Has anyone ever heard of this or had this. My niece was told she had it about 2 weeks ago, plus she also had impetigo and a yeast rash. Yep, all three and is just about a week shy of her 1st birthday!! Poor thing!!

Okay, fast forward to today. It is my day off, just like every Tuesday, 7 month old dd is very crabby, think she may have strep throat like my 2 year old ds, (went to the walk in clinic on Sunday), well I am holding her and trying to comfort her because she won't stop crying and I happen to look down and on her foot she has little spots all over it. I called the doctor when I got her calmed down enough to were I could hear on the phone, and made an appointment. This was around 9 or 10 o clock this morning. Okay its almost 1:00 now and she has the same spots on her back, legs, hands, stomach, bottom, and a few on her face. On top of that my ds is also showing little spots on his body. Currently, on him, its on his legs, bottom, and belly. We go to the doc at 3:15!! My sister is coming over at 2:00 to look at the rash to see if its the same thing my niece had or not.
I was just wondering if anyone has had to deal with this before or could it be something else, this rash is spreading extremely fast, and I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas!!!!!
Not to mention, on top of all this, the pipe under our bathroom sink is leaking!! And the wasps are still outside my door!!! Its going to be a great day!!!

Welcome to the coxachi (sp) bug
This runs crazy in my day care 1-2xs per year. The princess had it 3 weeks ago. If the spots are out, contagion and the worst of it is over.

My child has not had hand, foot & mouth disease, but last year (she was in Pre-K) there were papers sent home stating that it was going around the school. But I remember nothing about it except that it wasnt cause for real alarm.
I saw on Yahoo News that China is experiencing a huge number of cases like 12000, with 26 deaths. I didn't even think it made any of the kids sick!
I don't mean to alarm you, just have your doctor check it out.

My oldest boy had it when he was in preschool. I'm remembering that he had painful spots in his mouth. It hurt for him to swallow, so we would spray his mouth with something to numb things a bit (can't remember the name of it), had him take some Tylenol next, and then have him drink down some Carnation Instant breakfast. After the Tylenol kicked in, it wasn't as difficult to eat/drink.

My son had it when he was little (1 1/2 maybe) and it is uncomfortable for them we were told to give him a combination of Maylox and Benedryl to help the sores and pain in his mouth. It is very common and very contagious. Good luck to you and I hope your babies feel better soon.

I had it several years ago (got it from my then stepson). I didn't get a rash like you described. I had a horrible sore throat (in fact, I thought I had strep). I a few little blisters on my left hand a two or three on one of my feet. Nothing anywhere else.
My throat was the worst - I lived on popscicles for a week!~Jessica

The rash could be roseola - is a childhood illness that nearly every child has but is not harmful beyond uncomfortable. It is a rash that accompanies a high temp and crankiness. The rash is not itchy and will blanch when rubbed. Check out this link:

My daugther missed getting hand, foot, and mouth by one day year before last. I was going to take her to a play group, but my husband was home that day and wanted us all to stay home. The next day they issued and email about it and stopped play group for 3 weeks. The recommended treatment is bendryl. But check with your doctor first.
Hope your little one is feeling better.

I've never heard of benadryl for hand foot and mouth. It's caused by a virus and, like a cold, there's really not much you can do aside from wait it out and treat the symptoms that cause discomfort.
My little girl had h, f & m when she was about two. She was miserable.
She didn't have any sores aside from those inside her mouth.
If it turns out to be hf&m, I'd be cautious about giving them fever-reducing medications and only use them if it's necessary to make your child comfortable. (That is, barring a dangerous fever and following the advice of your dr...) Meds like tylenol will interfere with the body's ability to fight infection and can prolong the illness.
I hope it went well at the dr's!~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to everyone!!! We went to the doctor on Tuesday, he said that my dd has hand foot mouth, and that the chances of my ds actually having strep are not as likely as him having the hand foot mouth. So pretty much, both my 2 year old and my 7 month old have the disease and I am currently just waiting it out. The doctor told us that they should be fine to go to daycare by Friday, but I am going to wait it out, and not send them until Monday. I would feel bad if another child got it because I sent my two back to daycare a little too early. The doc also said that it should run its course in about 7-10 days, so we'll see what happens!! I am currently gettting to stay at home this week, with my two darling children. I had to take off work for the rest of the week and honestly really thinking that I don't want to go back to work, I forgot how much I really do enjoy being home!! It's only day 2 so we'll see how this goes, I probably begging work to take me back!!!
