Update on my food/latex allergy
It's a waiting game.
Basically I went in order to get a referral. They waste more appts....
Anyway, I told them my reactions to which foods and before I could even suggest a latex allergy, they did. Just like I thought, all the foods I have a reaction to are consistent with someone with a latex allergy. The reaction is severe, but not life threatening ...yet
I'm to avoid those foods (duh!) and keep track of any new ones that cause reactions while I wait for the referral. I'm supposed to get the referral packet in the mail by next Friday, if not call. I can guarantee I will be calling. In all the referrals I've had to wait for (for me and the kids) I have NEVER EVER been mailed anything about them. I *always* have to call and find out who I need to call to make the appt. I told the dr that and he was actually surprised. Are any of you?
So there you have it. Hurry up & wait.

W/ Tricare South I've always been mailed referral authorization letters and then made the appt. The only time that did not apply was when one of us had any testing done at the civilian hospital. Then I got the letter but the base clinic made the appt. for me.

Oh that is not right!
I have an anaphylactic reaction to latex and to avocados and bananas.
There are other tropical fruits related to these.

We're Tricare North. There have been many many many referrals since we've been here...cardiologist, pediatric cardiologist, pulmonologist, orthopedics, podiatry, behavioral health, and now allergist. Not once have I ever received this mythic packet lol. I've always had to call and say "where's my referral". The last time, the dr never even put the referral in the computer. They bent over backwards to get me an appt the very next day that time....

I wish you luck Heather, I have sent in paperwork to transfer my health info. from my last Dr. to my newest doctor. Around here Dr.'s are scarce and for 3 years I have actually been seeing P.A.'s who work under the direction of a doctor. I wish health care was easier, it just seems like a major "crap shoot." I hope you get your referral and that you get the care you deserve soon, I wish that for all of us

We are Tricare too and I have had to wait up to 10 days before. It could also be some by-line they give you to help the waiting process?? I was once told that they could take up 30 days before you get a referral and that you shouldn't die within that time! LOL! You get what you pay for sometimes, but I am not knocking TriCare too bad - at least we have it.
