anyone else run/jog?
i love the feeling i get when i go running/jogging.
i'm not great at it, meaning, i'm not super fast, but i just love to get out there and move. and i can only run during the "good" weather... so during winter i can't run.
(but do other exercises)
i dont have a bike, which is another thing i love, cuz i've got no place to store it... so i go running instead. (sneakers are smaller to store!)
so, who out there enjoys a little jog/run every now and then?
what do you use for motivation for those hard to lace up days?
what's your main motivation FOR running?
do you have any tips/tricks you use to run?
any fave places you like to run?

I used to love to run, and I still do, it's just a lot more difficult for me now because I've gained so much weight. I do my running on a treadmill. My only tip would be to listen to music. I have my ipod with me always. There's a free podcast you can subscribe to on Itunes called "podrunner". Every few days or so there's a new track to run to...most of them are about an hour long.

Yes, I run......when I'm on fire. LMAO. Sorry. I couldn't resist. No, I don't run or jog, but I hope you find others that do.

I love to jog on my treadmill. Problem is that I have not in about 3 months. I have no idea what to do with my son then. I feel so much better when I workout.
It's a great feeling when I am done. I get down when I can't exercise and it is just harder to motivate myself to get back in the groove after time off. I am in a funk now.

I run about 5x/week. I do it because I love the way I look and feel when I'm following a running program. I lean right out and my legs look athletic. I think running is the most effective and time efficient way to lose weight and get fit.
I live in a beautiful old neighborhood that's laid out in a grid pattern, so it's easy to pick up mileage without having to run too far away from my house. There's lots of cool houses to look at too, which helps the time pass.
I like to run with a podcast. I usually start the season with a Couch to 5K program, which I download from here.
I'm starting week 7 today and when I'm done with the program, I'll run 3-5 miles at a time.

I walk on my treadmill. I'd like to work up to running at one point. I have some feet problems. I pop a music video in the TV and get going. I'm going to jump on there after I get off of here. I got my treadmill for FREE! My father-in-law picked it up and was getting rid of it. I challenge myself to go alittle farther each day that I use it. I LOVE it!

I have started the c25k also, 3 times...but I have yet to finish it! Some day I will. I usually end up with a non-running related injury that keeps me from running and I get discouraged. DH and I are starting running again this week though. I love the feeling I get too. It makes me feel so strong. Plus, one of my goals this year is to run in the local Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning in my neighborhood. I am determined to enter it this year!

walking too!!
wow! i'm actually pleasantly suprised i got this many replies! LOL
I dont like to run with music.
it's the ONE time I have for some semblance of quietude, alone, and can connect with nature.
i can't stand to run on a treadmill, but would encourage those wishing to start to run to go that way... fewer ppl "looking" (and making you more self conscious).
but for me, there's nothing like the feeling I get from simply being outside, with the wind, the birds, the little furry critters... watching the houses float by... getting garden ideas from some ppl's lawns, watching dogs run along side me w/in their fenced in yards, catching up with the mailman/woman a couple times around the block! lol
sure, it's good for weight loss, looking good, clothes fitting better, etc.
but that's not my initial motiviation... it's a benefit sure, but not why "I" enjoy the freedom.
there are times when I'm just TOO tired to run, but wanna "go outside"... and I'll just walk!
i still get that feeling... being with nature, and a calm peaceful sense. and it's time that I get to do something FOR me... alone. and that's priceless!!!

nothing wrong with walking uphill on a treadmill Lady_V.
That's good!
I can jog/run on a flat surface all day (ok, so maybe not ALL day!), but when it starts going uphill... that's difficult... even just walking uphill can tire ya out... so, good job!!!

Mostly walk here. Luckily I have lost enough weight to try jogging again. It really is not a pretty site - even though decades ago I ran. Although I can jog/run in place for 20 minutes, know I am not using the same muscles but it helps when the weather is not great outside. Here is to hoping I can start jogging again.

So, I've talked DH into starting the C25k program with me (couch to 5k)! I'm so excited. If we can remain injury free we will be running 5k distance by the 13th of July! Woo Hoo! This is my 4th time doing this program, so I have a little experience with it.
It definitely works when you stick with it.

Yep I run! It's my main source of cardio. Unfortunately it has to be on a treadmill during our 6 months of winter...
But in summer once I get going again I run 3-4 times a week. Usually 3-5 miles at a time. I feel awful when I don't exercise for a couple of days so that's motivation enough. What keeps me from running at times are the other things in my day, so it just doesn't always work in my schedule for the day. In summer it really has to be done in the early morning or in the evening, and often I'm free in the afternoon where it's 90° and 90% humidity and just not a good idea.
Last year I was on a relay team for the Tussey Mountainback race, a 50 mile race up and around one of our local mountains. That was pretty awesome! I also run 5Ks here and there and was training for a half-marathon (13 miles) last winter but got sick about the time I'd trained up to 9 miles and wasn't able to get in enough running before the big day. Maybe this winter!

Getting back into it recently. I quit about 8 years ago, and it's scary how out of shape I am, and having gained 60#
I am realizing how much it's getting between me and the things I like to/have to do.
I am doing a walk/run till I work up to it, like I did before years ago. It feels SOOOO good. Clears the lungs, gets all of the willies and anxieties out......... Makes you want to do it again tomorrow.
