Default Anyone ever had "Ultram" (pain killer) before?

I told my doc as he was writing out my perscription for a pain killer that I didn't want vicodin or similar because I have three kids I need to be alert for. He perscribed Ultram instead. Have you ever had it? Did it make you dopey?

I have researched it and found info both ways.

I have used it and it doesn't make you dopey. My doctor gives it to me when I need it (rarely) because I am a nurse and need to be alert-not to mention I'm a mother too!
However, with that said, everyone reacts differently. My suggestion would be to take it after your children are in bed so if you do get dopey you can go to bed also. But I've never known anyone yet to get a 'high' from it.

It's an extremely mild pain med. You should be fine with it.

Thanks! I HATE the "can't muddle my way through my own thoughts" feeling I get with some other medicines. It makes me feel like I am not in control of my self and I don't like that feeling. (i don't drink either for the same reason)

hmmmm I think I"m going to ask for this next time
I usually just suffer because I'm ULTRA sensitive to medications
I can't even take two excedrine migrains without getting loopy
if I take HALF a vicodin I can hear my skin cells talk for like 20 hours
it's terrible I get soooooo loopy

It is very mild. I have taken it on and off for years. For me it is just not strong enough. Hope it helps you.

I took it last night before bed and it didn't make me feel loopy. I feel much better knowing it won't.

On the other hand it didn't do much to help the pain. It did take the sharpness of the pain away which is a big help.

The Dr. prescribed it to my DH right before his back surgery last November and he had to stop taking it because it made him agitated - he would get extremely angry at people for no good reason. Thank goodness his employers were very understanding after he explained it was the medication. He tried taking it again after surgery while at home recovering and had the same reaction. So it can affect your emotions. I'm not saying it happens to everyone, just something to watch for. I hope it works well for you.

Yep I've taken it, but for some weird reason I've always had a high tolerance to any medication , thus ultram never really helped much. I took it for sciatia and after a surgery and wasn't impressed. It more or less just took that sharp edge off rather than easing the pain a great deal.

However my friend was prescribed it for headaches and it did wonders for her.So I suppose it boils down to each person's body chemistry.

The ultram didn't affect me at all. Just helped with the pain. No woozy feelings or anything.

I had migraine headaches in the past. It did not make me drowsy or help with the pain.

Me too. I have an incredibly high tolerance for pain meds, due to the regimen I am on for my cluster headaches.
