Mercury Fillings Shattered! FDA, ADA Conspiracy to Poison Children with Toxic Mercury
http://www.naturalnews.com/z023367.html
(NaturalNews) The FDA has, for decades, ridiculously insisted that mercury fillings pose no health threat whatsoever to children. While dismissing hundreds of studies showing a clear link between mercury amalgam fillings ("silver fillings") and disastrous neurological effects in the human body, the FDA denied the truth about mercury and effectively protected the mercury filling racket that has brought so much harm to so many people. For over a hundred years, a cabal of "mercury mongers" made up of the American Dental Association, mercury filling manufacturers and indignant dentists have reaped windfall profits by implanting toxic fillings into the mouths of children, all while insisting that mercury -- one of the most toxic heavy metals known to modern science -- posed no health threat whatsoever.
Today, that reign of toxicity is about to end. Thanks to the tireless, multi-year efforts of people like Charles Brown, National Counsel for Consumers for Dental Choice (www.ToxicTeeth.org), the FDA has now been forced to acknowledge a fact so fundamental that, by any measure of honest science, it should have adopted the position decades ago. What position is that? Simply that mercury is toxic to humans.

Yeah I've been slowly getting mine replaced. I had so many from when I was a kid. Several of them borke down recently and new cavities formed. So I requested to please have them drilled out completely and replaced with white. My dentist seemed sort of anti-white filling but whatever, it's my mouth. I still have 6 metal fillings in my molars. Actually waiting for them to break down, haha.

I'm not sure that the alternative is any better. The material that is now used for fillings contains bisphenol-A (BPA). This is the substance that is found in plastics and has been recently banned in Canada. It's an endocrine disrupter. The research is pretty convincing that it interferes with the hormonal and reproductive systems and that all of us have this in our bloodstreams. BPA is found in the linings of food and soda cans, nalgene plastic bottles, baby bottles, hard and clear plastics, corrective lenses, and -- dental fillings.
I have metal fillings, and the ones containing BPA. According to my dentist, there is no other alternative.Last edited by Shoshana; 06-05-2008 at 07:00 PM. Reason: typo

I only have one mercury filling left, I've had two replaced with the white fillings and one replaced with a tiny little porceline mini crown (could have been a white filling but it was after I found out about BPA being in the white fillings). My son has two white fillings and NO mercury fillings. A dentist actually put in a mercury filling on my son when I was out of town and my parents took him in, and I had to take him back a few weeks later and have it removed and replaced which cost me alot, all out of pocket because insurance wouldn't cover it, but I think its worth it. My last mercury filling will be coming out as soon as I have the co-pay and will be replaced with another porcaline mini crown instead of the white filling, it is a good alternative although a *really* spendy one. My co-pay is $500!

Yes. Unfortunately. I use glass for storage now and gave up canned sodas and foods only to learn that my mouth is full of BPA. I'm not going to replace my silver fillings because I honestly do not know which are worseThe white fillings have BPA? Or alternative "silver" fillings?

Its funny you posted this right now because I went yesterday and got a filling replaced. I had a cracked Composite (white) filling and I actually requested that the dentist replace it with Amalgam (silver). He told me he hadn't done one of those in about 10 years and that he didn't even have the materials needed to do one. I told him go ahead and use composite and that we would have a much closer relationship because I would be getting them replaced every 5 years because of lack of durability. He laughed. Not sure if it was because he thought I was funny or he was glad to hear I'd be throwing more money his way.
The "white" fillings are not very durable at all. The hygenist told me they usually last 5-6 years on a chewing surface. She was right on the money with the one I had to have replaced because I had just gotten it 4 years before that. On the other hand the "silver" fillings last about 20 years.
Just something to think about

Yeah, Andrea -- I also tried to get silver fillings but wasn't able to. Now that you mention it, I have had one white filling replaced, and now that tooth is scheduled for a crown (aargh)!
When the plastics that contain BPA are heated (think microwave, filled with hot fluid, or during transportation), or when they are abraded or scratched (think cutting boards), the BPA is released. Even though I haven't read anything specific about an increased risk of BPA in dental fillings, all of the above conditions exist! (BPA is also more likely to be released when the foods contacting it have a high fat content (like lunch meat).

It's very troubling. I agree that my silver fillings have lasted 15-20 years and I don't know how long the white fillings I had put in last year will last. I am slowly having the silver ones replaced with crowns (because they couldn't be replaced with white fillings, there wasn't enough tooth left thanks to the way they drilled and placed silver fillings). The whole practice seems barbaric, especially having the work done, can you tell I'm not a fan of visiting the dentist?

The white fillings last about 5-6 years and each time it is replaced they have to drill out some more tooth in order the get rid of the rot that occurred during the breakdown- that you didn't notice at first.
pretty soon... no tooth.
I hadn't read the article yet- I will.
But without reading it- I am going to say that mercury is a direct link to neurological problems. Further... children these days are less likely to even HAVE the amalgam fillings. (or is that only in my area).
Children's dental health has improved substantially from when I was a child 1965+ and had a mouthful of amalgam. And exponentially since my mother was a child 1940's and donned dentures.
My children have no cavities at age 22. But if they did have cavities, they would be filled with composite. So, I don't know if children are getting mouth fulls of amalgam like when I was a child.
Hey! I have no neurological problems (that I care to admit to) and have an IQ that got me through doctorate school... so- could you just imagine the IQ I COULD have had if I didn't have amalgam? Good god!

I guess what I want to say - there is more to the neurological issues than the amalgam. The rate of neuro issues has increased in the past 3 decades, yet amalgam use has decreased.
What HAS increased more in the last 30 yrs? Pesticides, mass production and genetic alteration of our food.
That my dear friends..... is the REAL cause. And you will learn of this (if you haven't already) and you will say... "now who was that person who told me that? Hmmmm.... someone from the village.... WAIT! I know! it's that famous Frugal Nurse! WOW!!! I can't believe she has published this work and she's now famous!!! I knew that Frugal Nurse!! Why didn't I listen to her then!!"
All kidding aside, Think about what you put in your mouth.
That goes for dental work and food.
Carry on!

Hate to blow your theory, but hubby has never had any fillings of any type, has only eaten organic foods for the past 25 years and for the past 10 years has grown his own open-pollinated, organic, heirloom produce (non-genetically modified). We have our own eggs and meat that are also not laden with chemicals.
Even with monitoring the purity of his intake, he is struggling with an as yet undiagnosed progressive neurological disease. The sustained clonus reflex at ankles and wrists indicate that he may be paralyzed if the disease continues its progression.

YIKES!!! That's horrible!!! Truly! Especially if undiagnosed!
You haven't blown my theory.... not to worry. It is grounded in solid science.
As with any research... there are and will always be outliers.
And the statement is not meant to include all neurological disorders. Obviously, that would be silly.... Seizures are neurological and have a different set of symptoms unrelated to the neurological symptoms we speak of in mercury poisoning... which more closely resembles Autism. To put it in layman terms.
PS, I'm really concerned about your husband. If you ever want to come to Mass General Hospital... I'll fix you up with the brightest.

I look forward to reading what you've come up with!
I'm concerned about my hubby too. It's very hard to watch. I'm hoping we have answers some time this summer, we are currently travelling to UAMS (Univ of Arkansas Med Sciences) Neuro Institute for testing and more testing. If I could afford to head to Mass, I'd do it! I've always wanted to see Boston. But, besides the expense, I don't think he could handle the trip, it's hard enough for him to sit for the three hour drive to Little Rock.
Thanks for your concern.
