    Lightbulb Soy Milk and Products

I have been drinking Soy Milk since last fall on the advice of my colon cleansing person. Regular dairy products were leaving me bloated and gaseous (TMI - sorry). So DH and I started drinking soy and the whole family switch over in January after my DD turned 2.
As a lot of you know I am now pregnant, but we had a little trouble getting there - I was having some endocrinology issues to include lactating 1 year after I had weaned my daugther from breast feeding and an enlarged thyroid. It took me nearly 5 months to get pregnant and there was no explanation as to why I was lactating again and not getting pregnant. After taking some medication to in effect dry up my milk production - I was able to get pregnant.
Fast forward. I am planning a home birth and I was speaking with the midwife that will deliver me. She is also a nutritionist and we started going over my diet and what to have and have not. She was a little alarmed when I told we were all drinking soy milk. She said some research has pointed to some issues with soy that it is not as healthy as what originally thought. She also warned about boys having it due to the estrogen in it!
Now she is not a pushy lady and told me I could do what I pleased and to feel free to research it for myself. I was talking with my son about it and he decided to research it, thinking I was full of it! Well, we both found the same article separately and were a little surprised at what we found.
I have been buying soy milk with coupons and stocking up because it last for a couple of months - longer than regular milk. I was thinking I would quit drinking it when we ran out of the 3 half gallons we have, now I am not so sure I want to keep it.
I am only sharing this article with you as a fellow villager - not an alarmist! This is little known and little publicized information I felt that may benefit someone else. Have a great day!

I have also tired to get away from milk products but have found it very hard since I love milk although educated myself about what's in it makes me think twice. I read the book "Skinny Bitch" and it opened my eyes to what could be out there. I didn't take well to the Soy Milk but the Rice Milk I actually liked. I tried Rice Dream original and though it taste the closest to my Skim Milk. Good for you making the switch!

I think I will just end up going back to regular milk or possibly rice milk. I thought soy was a great idea for my health - but looking back I had totally off the wall issues - goiter in my neck (thyroid), lactating issues, etc... I am disappointed and I thought I was doing a good thing! I reckon I would rather have bloating and gas than have my thyroid mess up and to much estrogen for my children!
