Default Another use for Coconut oil....

When I was in perimenopause (I'm in meno now at 53) I read somewhere that using coconut oil (which is a COOLING oil) helps with nighttime hot flashes. I have a few of them now, but NOT like I did in peri.

You're supposed to rub coconut oil into your hair and scalp, making sure the scalp is fairly covered. And then rub the oil into your feet, also. You can feel the cooling effects of the oil. It's supposed to lessen the flashes. IT did a really good job for me. Put a towel on the pillow case!!

Coconut oil is a solid at room temp, but if you take some out of the jar and rub between your palms, it softens and turns liquidy.

In the AM, shower as usual and wash hair. The oil is good for stopping those summertime frizzies too! And leaves your feet soft.

My doctor, who has both an MD and a PhD in holistic medicine, advised me on the benefits of coconut oil a few years ago. Actually, the hot flashes haven't been too bad -- occasionally wake me up but I know what they are, strip naked, turn on the fan, kick the covers off and go back to sleep

I almost picked up some coconut oil at the health store yesterday. I've heard great things about it. Arrgh, it was like 14 bucks for a small bottle though.

Maybe I should give it a try.

I am never without coconut oil. I keep a large jar here at home and one at the lake. I use it for a multitude of things. I even use it to cleanse my mouth and whiten my teeth. http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/oil_pulling.html here is the link for oil pulling. I like my coconut oil because it tastes good and I have to keep swishing for 10 minutes. If you want to buy coconut oil really cheap.........www.vitacost.com and the Nutiva brand is what I buy.
