Has IE (intuitive eating) been discussed here?
I have been on diets more on and off since 1978 (yes, 30 years ago) when I began to gain weight, after having been a skinny minnie before that. I was 23 then, am 53 now. There's a l-o-n-g story in between--I'll spare you that.

All of these diet programs have left me with a real eating disorder type mindset. I've realized for the past few years, that I really had to somehow get a handle on food, and go back (WAY back) to when I thought of it normally--as sustenance, not some really big bad or good thing.
I.......just...........can't..........bear...........to..........think...........DIET.........anymore.
Can't do it.
So I am on another forum that is mainly diet and exercise---- and they have been talking (raving) about a book (yeah, another book....) about IE. They 'say' they are really being helped by it. So......as much as I've told myself NO MORE DIET BOOKS, I caved and ordered it today. I am including the online site also, which has the 10 principles to getting back to eating 'normally', but I thought I'm pretty far gone
..........I'll need the book.
I shall let you all know if it helps me.

I think part of the problem is our systems get tricked by so many natural "edible" substances like high fructose corn syrup (approved for human consumption in the 80's) and the artificial sweeteners and fats, etc.
The best way to tune in and eat intuitively is to only eat real food as opposed to highly processed and synthesized food "stuff".
As you read the book you ordered, PLEASE post info and your thoughts.
Thanks.

I know how you feel about the mental strain that the word diet causes. When Gripey and I started to change our lives we vowed we'd never talk about it as a diet, only as a change. I'm not saying I don't still struggle b/c I definitely do but it's so much easier than it was at first.
I'm looking forward to hearing about the book.

I'm always interested in hearing about healthy eating and dietary health. There is such a divided line with don't eat sugar/ don't eat artificial sweetener...etc. I don't know which side I'm on!! I can't wait to heat your "review"

Well, I got the book and read it, and learned whole lot about myself and my eating problems. It will be so nice to get back to normal eating and get off the roller coaster.

I just picked this book up from the library, I can't wait to read it. Do you think it will help?

Marie and gg---yes, I do think it's going to help, seems to be helping already! I think I'm eating more 'normally' if that makes sense. Choosing what my body needs (even if that's chocolate) and not being obsessed like diet-thinking makes you. And I swear--I think I'm eating LESS.

That's a great website. I can't wait to read more.
It reminds me of one of my resolves - the Holiday Eating guilt.
I put myself in the mindframe of our ancestors, when Holidays meant more - More food was cooked and shared than anyother time of the year and we feasted with gratitude and purpose. Where's the guilt in that?
It also gives us something to look forward to.
So I pretty much eat sensibly on ordinary days but if it's someones birthday or a holiday - dig in!

I'm glad you are noticing a difference. I am about half way through the book and I am trying to ditch the "diet" mentality and eat what I want when I want to. I hope I can eat less this way, so far I haven't noticed a decrease in my eating. I think gg makes some good points about other factors playing into our body chemistry...I am quite stressed out and trying not to be (with work and physical therapy) I am feeling tired all the time though, even after 8 hours of sleep and I guess unmotivated!
