    Post calorie restricting diets

has anyone else heard of this?

what i know of it is it's been tested over many yrs mostly in animals/insects. some small trial groups of ppl who already "practiced" CR diets (with optimal nutrition) participated in a study.

    what do YOU think?

do you think restricting calories (no less than 1400 cal's a day! and up to only 2000 cal's a day) is something that can help the "aging process"? (that for some reason ppl are so afraid of!... but for me that's a whole 'nother topic!)

do you think this CR diet can help ppl w/their health problems?

do you practice any type of CR diet?

    i'll post my thoughts later...

I got to say that calorie restrictive diets only cause more weight problems, IMHO.

I have been on TOPS and lost 50 pounds, kept it off 2 1/2 yrs until I contracted meningitis and was put on prednisone.

I have lost varying amounts of weight on Weight Watchers, Adkins and that type diet (I am diabetic so should watch my carbs).

They are impossible for most people to CONTINUE. You may lose weight but once you "stop" dieting, you gain it all back because you did not learn to eat properly.

I now follow the Andrew Weil 8 weeks to optimal health plan and the eight pillars of health by someone else ... sensible foods eaten, exercise, and water. I don't do it perfectly but it is a plan I can follow for life.

I do not become obsessive about my food intake on these plans as I do on "diets".

I forgot to say, I also use an online "program" called spam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! It is better fried than typedspam! They are also advocates of the wellness plan ... not "dieting" so much. Have a LOT of educational articles and have a bunch of "teams" that you can join if you want encouragement.

They do have a place to track food, however you have to track calories as well and that gets me OCD sometimes.

    SPAM! I LOVE SPAM! lol!

    Hate when that happens.

    My point of view.
    here goes.

One should not 'diet'. That's a four letter word.
People have negative connotations with the word Diet in its verb form.

Your diet (noun) should be maintained by what you expend in energy.
Expend 1200, eat 1200. Stay equal. Expend 2000, eat 2000.

Here's the problem that EmilyD elluded to.
Yes, diets are causing problems. People are on diets in astronomical numbers - yet obesity continues.

    Here's why.

1200 calories of highly nutritious, chemical-free, non-GMO food in it's natural state (raw) is 1000 x's better than 1200 calories of the exact some food - cooked. and 100,000 x's better than processed food. (numbers can not be verified. I made it up because I am passionate about it)

Dieters use those prepackaged foods.. lean cuisine for example- which is total garbage. You barely get nutrition from it.

So... you can eat 1200 calories/day - you will loose a pound a week if you consistently expend 1800 calories a day. But will you be healthy? Will you maintain it?

It has not been the case thus far. Lots of research can document that.

Here's my solution. Eating a diet that is raw. Preferably 100%- but that might not be feasable all the time but at a minimum 80/20 - will allow your body to absorb 100% of the nutrition.
Yes... 100% of what you eat will be aborbed. Stay away from animal meat!! Humans don't process animal meat.

Here what happens. And any raw foodist will attest to this.
Because you absorb 100% of your food you eat.... you just don't need to eat all that much. Really. It's the oddest thing and a wonderful relief and just could answer the pending food crisis.

With the current food stuffs being marketed today... and that is just about anything that is not in it's natural pesticide free state - is not giving you the nutrition you need.... your body will crave more and more food until it's needs are met. That amounts to a lot of extra calories just to get the nutrition.
    People don't realize that.

Are you computer savvy? Then think of it this way.

The hard drive has the capacity to fix itself, run itself, and to tell itself what it needs. You, as the operator, need to install the programs to let the computer run itself.

We've all been infected with a virus- and a good system wash is in order. Once we've done a system cleaning... you don't want to download more junk.. right? You want to keep it clean and running smooth. And you don't want to overclog the system.. right? Only what is necessary for a smooth running system.

Cheer ree o! Sorry so long.

i have to admit, i've been doing CRS for years... with nothing but fabulous results... and noticeable health benefits (from blood tests done when i had insurance). Dr's were amazed at MY choices and ability to stave of things like high cholesterol (which is genetic) among other issues. it's a lifestyle choice, not a "diet"... unless you wanna call my diet something i do daily.
it's concentration is food is good, food is fuel and nutrition for the body... less "food tastes yummy!", but the foods I eat I find "yummy"... and personally really dislike sugar, junk foods, etc. i'm strange, i know.
    it's something that works for ME - and i wouldn't advise for anyone else ... w/out a consult from a M.D.

crs - calorie restriction (society)... is a lifestyle choice.

basically, and there are a few sites out there...http://www.calorierestriction.org/

short form, in my own words...

you remove things like sugar, white flour, processed foods... the usual "obvious" foods...
replace with veggies of all kinds, a little grain, a little dairy/eggs, a decent amount of lean protein (obvious kinds like: turkey, lean beef, chicken, fish, and/or beans) and a little fruit.

so it's not restrictive of "good" foods. it's not necessarily a "whole" or "raw" foods type of "diet" either... however, foods eaten in their natural state is preferred over cooking (for instance, raw broccoli over steamed... but steamed is better than none).

so, on that level it's a common sense approach...

the "restrictive" part, is a scientific study that restricting calories assists one in living longer.

example: based on bmi, weight, height, age, sex... etc etc...
if you _should_ take in about 2200 calories... based on the CR lifestyle, you'd try to shoot for about 1800 or so calories a day.

obviously, there's the weight loss that goes with it... but FOR ME (yeah, my disclaimer), it helped with medical issues I was having at the time.

getting rid of toxins and things (which are stored in your fat, for protection)... helps i guess!

i hope that helps... feel free to PM me if ya have any specific questions.
