fasting - curious
how many of you - if any - fast?
what kinda fast do you do?
(water, fruits or veg only and/or juices, etc)
why do you fast?
(religious, health, spiritual, exercise/health regimine, etc)
how long do you fast and when you come outta the fast, what do you consume?
just curious.
i fast myself every now & then... don't do anything special really. just a typical fast.
note: if you ever want to try a fast you should consult your physician!

I like your disclaimer at the end! lol. Funny!
I fast - regularly. Like everytime I have an alcoholic drink.
I think I'll fast tomorrow! lol.
Seriously, I do a pH fasting regime where I drink liquid greens which are alkalizing. This could be juiced greens, wheatgrass, pureed veg soups. (chemical free at all times)
This pulls the acidity out of the cells.
It's the acid that causes illness.
I do it generally for 7 days.
I do it for health reasons to get out all the insults that my body must endure working in the city, eating/drinking junk at times, breathing the air polution. BLEH
When I first did it - I was sooooo ill. It took 6 weeks to feel better - that's how long I had to do this cleansing.
You do it until you feel better.
After the fast - you'll feel so good you don't want to eat junk. You'll want to keep things pure. So... gentle soups, crispy greens, fresh fruits.
Doing a liquid fast doesn't make you ... 'poopy' in the liquid sense. Even though you're liquidizing it.. you're still having 'opaque' substance.
Tells you how long things stay in the tract... doesn't it!? You want that stuff outta you in under 24 hours or you're dealing with disease.
When the opaque substance gets to be the same color as the green liquid you've been drinking... you're done with the rough stuff. Now you're on to healing and health.
So you've cleaned out the cells (if its the first time... its a 6-12 week process), introduced gentle, chemical free, foods as close to their naturally intended state, and continuing to avoid chemicals.
You will then no longer become ill, no longer catch a cold, all your mucousal symptoms will disappear and a huge abundance of other things will occur.
Honest to goodness... people don't realize what it can do for you.

I am Type 2 diabetic so, so far no fasting. I do think I could fast for 24 hours and do a fruit and vegetable juice fast, but would have to work up to it.
Before becoming diabetic, I was hypoglycemic, so have only fasted for part days for religious reasons (although, I could have not fasted because of health issues.)
I would LIKE to fast for health reasons and plan to eventually work up to that.Living Single and Loving it!

I try regularly to fast, especially on Fridays and sometimes for two or more weeks at a time. But the fast is not from all foods and it is part of my faith. Everyone in my faith does this fast all over the world.
I am however very bad at the fast. It is very clear to me that I have an emotional eating problem and poor self control. Fasting really has shown that to me. But also, I have eaten badly for so long that when I increase fiber my body gets very very cranky and stuffed up.
Here are the basic guidelines of the fast:
no meat, poultry, fish with bones, eggs, dairy, olive oil or wine.
Traditionally, the amount of food is reduced as well down to eating one meal a day.
When I tried to follow that simple fast eating three times a day I got sick. My doctor said I had to stop as my intestines were getting suffering.
So, I adjusted the fast. I had trouble again. I adjusted again.
Now during the fast I don't eat red meat or pork or cheese. It is a huge compromise. So, my goal is to have one official fasting meal a day during the fast and restrict red meat, pork and cheese in the other meals.
Fasting is supposed to involve extra time in prayers and giving to the poor. It is done in my church not to lose weight, but to increase in self control and to grow spiritually.
