~I thought conventional wisdom held that it was impossible to spot train, especially in the belly, ab area. 5 minutes sounds too good to be true. I remember reading somewhere that Britney Spear's trainer had her doing hundreds of crunches every day to keep her toned.~

I say anything is worth a try, also. I know a guy in the service and we were having a discussion about flattening abs and this is the exercise he recommended.

It is a good exercise, because you are holding up both your upper and lower body, which causes the muscles in your core to flex, and it will make you work them more, rather than spot-training specific muscles in your abdomin.
BUT... there is no way to "spot-train" the fat away from your midriff. When you lose weight, you lose it all over, not just in one area. Working your abdomin is going to give you defined muscles there, but you're not going to lose fat there specifically. The fat will be reduced all over.
The other thing with doing tons of crunches is that when you do build the muscle, it makes your abdomin and midriff bigger because the muscles get bigger. However, if you've got a layer of fat on top of that, it's just going to push it out a little farther and make it look a little wider. True, Britney Spears had gorgeous abs when she was younger but after doing hundreds of crunches a day over the course of five or six years, her midriff has gotten wider and thicker. I know, it's not the most flattering pic of her, but you get the impression I'm trying to make.
So I hate to be the one to burst the bubble, but doing these "quick-fix" workouts isn't going to help any of us get the perfect abs. Ya'll know the drill -- 30 to 60 minues of physical activity per day, clean and healthy eating, lots of water and lots of sleep. That's the way to a gorgeous figure. If you're interested in frugal living, minimalism and and

I is sorry -- I'd just hate to have any of you waste your time and not get the results you want.
