Default Hormone Replacement Therapy: Let’s think it through!

    http://www.healthy.net/scr/column.as...ex&ColumnId=45

As a Naturopathic Doctor I have been taught to think about health and healing in a very comprehensive, holistic manner. In fact, the science that drives my thought process is that of Vitalism. Vitalism states that our bodies have an inherent self healing mechanism and are brilliant and built to stay in balance through the harmonious efforts of many interrelated systems and are constantly working on our behalf to take care of us. As a practitioner of this style of medicine, I am challenged to listen and ask deeper questions when I am involved with a patient who has become entirely out of balance and therefore symptomatic. Symptoms are the body’s way of talking to us, telling us that something needs attention! I have to understand where there might be “obstacles to cure”, where there might be some excess, some deficiencies and then work with the body in order to achieve a state of health

I totally agree with you, as I had mine at 35 (I know that YOU know that!)

Do try and fine a doctor (natural, or otherwise) that deals with bio-identical hormones......I love mine!!!

I'm a little worried about HRT honestly. There's family history of early menopause (my mom was done with hers in her 40s) and she's told me I should look into things like taking calcium supplements now. It scares me to death! As if I didn't already feel old at 30, I have my 51 year old mother telling me to prepare early.

I want to look at every natural option I have before going into a form of therapy that involves special medications and such. I hate taking medication unless I'm in so much pain that I need it, which is also why I'm against HRT.

I just found this really great website and wonder if any ladies have looked into taking the items listed:

There is a difference between early menopause and surgical menopause. With early menopause your body gradually eases it's depletion of your hormones and what most women do is supplement what there body is still producing, just in smaller amounts. With surgical menopause you go from full to zero production. In most cases, these natural forms are not enough. (I did say most not all)

I, for one, cannot take some of these herbs that are recommended, I have allergies. Also, because I produce nothing hormone-wise (no estrogen or progesteren), I need to protect my heart.

I am all for natural remedies, and actually urged my mom to use them. But for me, I need the HRT. I am on a bio-identical patch as I wanted to go as natural as possible.

Having had the surgically induced menopause at 25 I had no choice but to have HRT. I would have been in a mental institution without it. You can't imagine how much of an impact complete depletion of hormones affects not only the body but the mind as well. Getting my hormones levelled out took a long time and the effects were uncomfortable to say the least but not disastrous like it would have been with none. I'm now 48 and feel better than ever (since before I had my surgery all those years ago). I'm not going off of estrogen anytime soon, not unless I have no choice.
