Carrie what I know I learned a few years ago when my dh was misdiagnosed with discoid Lupus. The diagnosis has been overturned (thankfully). I'm sorry to hear that you're going through this. I think Voodit (a long time member here) can tell ya almost anything you need to know. (unless I'm mistaken....I'm pretty sure it's lupus she suffers with)

I know this, you have to protect your health at all costs. Do your research on the meds and weigh the risks v. the benefits. REST, stay out of the sun, research vitamin therapies for lupus, eat right, get some exercise when you can, drink lots of water.

Although, I don't know the medicals about the disease, my goodfriend has it and has lived with it for many.,...years. She has had 2 kids and is now a grandma. She works but I know she does what she is supposed to do. She stays out of the sun as much as possible to. She isn't overweight either. She doesn't talk about it much, she just lives her life, and listens to the doctors. Good luck, I hope all will be well.

Hey Froggy. Sorry for your diagnosis. I know it can be a shocker! I was diagnosed (SLE) almost 6 years ago. I have done TONS of reading and researching and networking. Plus I have lived with it for the past years. I would love to help answer any questions and just be a shoulder too if you need one (I can't tell you how helpful it is to have someone to talk to who actually knows what you are going through...it's hard for most people to wrap their minds around you being sick when you don't look like anything is wrong). Please PM me or email me!
    *gentle hugs*

    Hi Froggy,

Although lupus is debilitating, it does not have to be. My mom has lupus. I am doing a bit of research in the area of natural supplements (I am a Ph. D. biochemist). There are a few things you can do in addition to the article from countrybumpkin. Don't just concentrate on calcium - it may not be what your body needs. Magnesium, zinc, and essential fatty acids are more likely to be deficient. Try an elimination diet - I would recommend going off gluten and dairy initially if you can. It may sound weird, but it will help. Live each day at a time and have an attitude of graditude.
