    Default got results of bloodwork..

My ths is at an elevated level. Of course, the nurse didn't tell me what is meant or anything only that she was referring me to the doc down the hall (my ob-gyn nurse practitioner had ordered the tests). So, of course I went online and this is usually indicative of hypothyroidism. My mom has it so it is not at all surprising I do. I go for my appointment on Wednesday. What I was wondering was how many of you gals also have this or another thryroid issue? Did you have any problems getting the medication at the right dosage? etc? Any helpful hints or advice?

I've got thyroid problems--never can remember if it is hyper or hypo. The one I have makes it hard for me to lose weight, my hair falls out, I'm always tired.

That sounds right. Anyways, I get my blood checked about every 6 months to reevaluate my medicinal needs. Sometimes, I go in sooner if I don't feel 'right'. By right, I mean it feels like I am getting ran over by a mack truck.

Hypo means everything is working too slowly, so you put on weight and feel tired and sluggish and are cold a lot. Hyper means you're going too fast and you tend to be underweight and may still be tired because it's like you're running on a treadmill all the time. I was hyper when I was on a 4000 calorie a day diet and weighed 85 pounds (finishing grad school, looked like a prison camp escapee, nothing feminine about being skeletal). Now I'm hypo, because it burned itself out and part of it died, so I get to try to break eating habits of several decades and I'm overweight and want to sleep alot and have depression issues. On the plus side, hypo can be treated with meds and it takes a while to get the right levels but it is not too bad getting used to it because you always feel better than you did when you first got diagnosed. You skin and hair get dry if it is off, but I can't remember whether that is when it is hypo or hyper. Also, hypo affects your memory (not just making excuses here!) so you get to get smarter again when it starts to be at the right level - so look at it as something to look forward to. Life will improve soon!

Yep, I have a little depression. I wouldn't call it real depression because it comes and goes. BUt I do get to the point where some days I just don't care about a lot of things. I just attributed the memory problems with baby brain. lol. 2 little ones at home would make anyone forgetful!!! And I can't wait for my mood to change and to actually want to do things again.
I'm hoping that maybe getting this under control will also help my cycle get back to normal. It was 48 days in between the last 2. It totally sucked.

Having a baby and/or birth control or hormones can interfere with your thyroid too.....might wanna read up on that before you see the dr. . Never hurts to be prepared.

Drinking city water that has fluoride and chlorine in it will eventually disrupt your thyroid function too. That might be something else that you may want to research. Good luck and let us know how you are doing with this.

I have the same as Mrs. McDowell ~ I can always tell when my synthroid needs to increased. I have the added problem of being severely anemic and the two kind of work against each other so I have NO energy at all on most days.

I go in about every 6-12 weeks and have a blood test for my thyroid. I've had the nuclear test and all that and right now we are having a hard time getting the right dosage of meds.

If I could just get some energy once in awhile, I would be happy
