Has anyone ever tried hypnosis...
...to lose weight, stop smoking, etc?
Just curious to know what your experiences have been like.
TIA

I have. I did it many moons ago for smoking.
I got a tape (remember those days? ) from the library called
Quit smoking in 60 minutes. Bam DONE for life.
I have a SLEW of hypnosis weight loss CD's (anybody want them?) I haven't had any luck with them.
I even took private hypnosis session in Newton, MA. Yep.. took my $1200!!!!!!! and I got fatter. Arrrrrggghhhhh.
Then I found out - I needed to exercise to loose weight. DOH!! this hypnosis was making me too tired to exercise.
I do self hypnosis to fall asleep at night. works great.
I also have some other hypnotic CDs to enhance other areas.
Some people are more suggestive - others can't get there.
I'm one of those people who can be hypnsotized by a comedy show hypnotic master - and be missing some time there. While EVERYONE is laughing.
"What happened? Someone tell me what happened?"

I let someone try to hypnotize me before but he couldn't do it. There were a couple of us in the group that way. He told us that we were too skeptical, had trust issues, and liked being in control too much...well duh
Are you going to give it a shot?

Not hypnosis - though I do think hypnosis can help - but I can't relax that much.
However, what I have done is change how I talk to myself. Our brains tend to believe what they hear most often, so changing how you talk to yourself helps change your internal, subconscious beliefs.
So when I quit smoking, at age 23 or so, with a 2 pack a day habit, I had a little script I told myself every time I had a craving. I told myself how much I hated cigarettes, that I didn't smoke (not that i was quitting, that I was already a NON smoker), that smoking made me sick, that I owuld never miss it, etc.
Cravings were gone in about 3 days. To this day, 16 years later, I've never craved another, and one time, when I tried a cigar, I felt nauseous and disgusted.
Reprogram your brain!
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I own several recordings. You can download them at www.instant-hypnosis.com or www.hypnosisdownloads.com They are less than $10 and they cover a multitude of topics. I have one for sleep that works wonders. I have a weight loss one, too, but I haven't listened to it enough for it to work.
The first one I ever used was for managing ADHD, and it was unbelievable! I know this is going to sound weird, but it felt like it woke up a part of my brain that had been sleeping for years, LOL.
You can get a FREE download at http://paulmckenna.com/trance/
It's done by the guy who hypnotized Ellen DeGeneres to stop smoking. It's REALLY good.
Almost forgot...there's also a free hypnosis podcast on Itunes that you can download...there's a TON of different topics, and each recording is only about 15 minutes.
If you try any of these, please report back and let us know the results!Last edited by hwmabire3; 07-11-2008 at 04:48 PM. Reason: More info

I have never tried it, but often wondered if it works. I think I need some hypnotic CDs to help me relax and sleep.
Are you going to try it, Michelle? If you do, let us know how it does for you.~*Michelle*~

I had a CD to lose weight -- it actually was helpful. I lost several pounds. Unfortunately, my dd accidentally destroyed it.
It said things like -- "I will crave healthy foods" "I will want to exercise", etc.

DH and I tried hypnosis for smoking. Worked for a bit on him but I didn't even get hypnotized during the session.
