Pedometers
Anyone else wear one?
I've been wearing one this week to clock how much I'm walking during the day. On Monday, I clocked in over 19,000 steps. Tuesday was 15,000 and right now I'm at a little over 10,000. My goal is 15,000 a day. (Remember, I am the principal at an educational day camp in the summer, so I am constantly walking around with the kids...most jobs don't allow for this much walking.)
It doesn't seem to be making much of a difference, which I'm attributing to "Postman's Syndrome" (the body getting used to repetitive movement and it no longer being aerobic)
Still, it feels good!

I wore one for about 2 weeks and was so proud of myself and my many steps....until I realized it was counting rocking in my chair as steps.....
I took the darned thing off and haven't had it back on since. Enjoy your's Amy, hope it's not quite as sensitive as mine was.

Okay- I wore one as part of a walk fitness program and I was to attempt 10,000 steps in a day. (or something like that)
Well.. lol! I was in my car sitting - driving - and the darn thing was increasing in number of step just from bumps on the road.
Crack me up!! Counting steps.

I had one but my 2 year old broke it....
never attach a pedometer to a 2 year old.
makes you look really bad.

My phone has one built in, so if I have it in my pocket, I'm technically wearing one. I used to have it in my pocket a lot at work, and would average about 10,000 steps in an 8-hour shift.

I used to have a free one and worn it for awhile. I don't remember the average steps that I had. It was fun using it to see how many steps on average I had in a day.

I just started wearing a step counter yesterday and today. It doesn't seem to count the movements of me scrubbing floors though

I think its also where you place it on your body. B/c of my body fat, where it gathers in the midsection, I couldn't wear it on the waist of my pants so it never counted the true amount of steps I did. Then I tried to clip it onto my pant pocket and well I was up to 25,000 in one day - NOT realistic at all. I use it as a guideline...give or take a few thousand. But usually my barking legs and feet tell me when I've hit my goal.

Funny you posted this because my mom gave me one today. I was curious how many steps I should be taking.
My daughter took it off of me and put it on herself and ran around. After she did it she said "I got you some points mom" like it was a video game

~I tried using one for 2 weeks but it was always off my at least 5 steps for every 20 I actually did. I kept changing my stride rate but it didn't ever get close enough to accurate to be a useful tool.~

Yes, well...there are good experiences and bad experiences. (I think I need to stop suggesting things...every time I do, everyone says they suck!)
I think the best thing about a pedometer, whether it is 100% accurate or not (mine is...I've tested and retested the calibration) it encourages you to walk more which is ALWAYS a good thing. My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

I like your suggestions, and I certainly don't think they "suck". Please keep them coming

I think you've hit on a key point...wearing one does encourage one to walk more...at least that's the case for me.
When I first got mine, it had me set it up to my stride length. Is that the case for the rest of you who have them?
My challenge was keeping it away from the kids
I should see if I can find mine.
