I don't have experience with IBS, but a few years ago, my Dr. thought I might have it. At that time I found a site that had a lot of information and support. Maybe it will help you too:

Ummmm, stress use to bring on IBS for me. Some people may want to stop reading this now..........going to discuss body functions.
My MD perscribed Levison (sp?) to stop the Diarrhea. (The kind of diarrhea that was like turning on a water faucet.) It worked quickly and was a life saver. Only side effect was dry mouth. Now I have the flip side and fight constipation (yes another IBS problem.) For that I use "fiber" suppliments and stool softeners.
I have found that if I walk, ride bike or get physical exercise I de-stress and it REALLY helps lessen the IBS symptoms.

Hi Fern,
Have you every considered a gluten free diet for IBS? It will help. Also are you C-type of D-type or mixed? My mom has IBS (C-type), my dad has IBD (diahrhea all the time). I've had them gluten free when they visited me - mom was able to have reg bowel movements and dad's diahrhea all but disappeared (until e got into cheap vodka coolers that is!) C-type IBS can be help with increasing greens (try a greens supplement if you can), extra water, fiber (which some cannot do), etc. I would also try to cut out as much processed food as possible and increase veggie intake if you can digest them. You might also try probiotics or digestive enzymes. Feel free to PM me if you have to - I am researching the area due to food issues with my family and all the family history of chronic disease. I am a Ph.D. Biochemist turned SAHM if you are wondering. I just saw my mom last weekend and she is trying to eat GF, taking a greens supplment and supplmenting with magnesium and she is the healthiest she has been in a long time.
