Birth control... Your thoughts
I am always curious on this... what are your thoughts on birth control?
Me personally.. i wouldn't ever use a pill because i would forget it. I wouldn't use a pill, implant, or shot because of all the nasty side effects ( i have high blood pressure and heart attack running in my family i don't want to increase those chances )plus i still do not trust that there are not side effects for children after their use. The uterine implants that "keep the egg from attaching" more like scrape it off in my view is an abortion. I know that fertilized eggs move through the uterine from time to time, but i believe that once the egg is fertilized it is a life. That leaves condoms and the like which i would use, but men just don't like them. They always complain that they can't feel anything blah blah blah. Which i don't get the whole reason for wearing them is to not get pregnant so what if you loose just a teeny bit of satisfaction for that split second. And abstinence .. it only lasts so long when your in a relationship.. sometimes you got to scratch that itch.
Just a Q i have been pondering .. my mom is still bugging me to get BC after having Ellen. *lol* Like we have time or the will to act like rabbits when i got a 4 month old to care for, Joe's in a wheelchair with back pain, and I'm working 32hrs a week at night.

Although I'm not a fan of any of the birth control methods, I am at a point in my life due to medical conditions that i cannot hav any more kids (I have epilepsy and the medication I take would more than likely have a huge impact on a child if I was to conceive. I have tried bc pills, condoms, depo privara and I currently have an IUD. Getting the IUD was the best decision I ever made, I know it's not for everyone but it was the best solution for me. Not having to worry about remebering to take pills, rememberng to buy condoms, or going psycho crazy with the Depo Provera shot.

I am past the time for birth control, but how about a diaphram? You use it in conjunction w/ spermicidal jelly and the results are usually excellent. They are easy to insert, no barrier that a man can feel....

I don't have to worry about that anymore as I had my DH neutered. But, the last birth control I used was the nuvaring, I liked that it only had to be changed monthly.

After I had to get off of the pill due to some medical reasons, we started using some of those "Encare" birth control suppositories. I don't even know if they make them anymore. DH called them "Encores". At any rate, they were better than nothing. I did not get pregnant while using them; before, when I got off the pill, I did.
Had to add that DH has had a vasectomy since, so not a problem anymore.Last edited by IamBlessed; 07-23-2008 at 07:05 AM.

I have never been able to use birth control. My gyn has had me on numerous different things and everything contains at least enough hormone to throw me into a life altering depression. Within a week of going off of every birth control I've tried, my life (or at least outlook on it) goes back to normal and I am happy again. So we know for sure it is the bc.
For now, we use condoms. I've been lucky, DH has never complained. We plan on having him nuetered (LMAO at that term, BTW) after the first of the year. We decided in June that we don't want any more kids (after miscarrying our last pregnancy at 18 weeks, it was a tough decision to make). So, since it will be permanent, we are giving ourselves 6 months to make sure the decision is the right one and neither of us have second thoughts about it!

I'm on the pill, it keeps me regular and helps with pregnancy, for me, it is a win-win. Our doctors say we are too young for either of us to get "fixed", so for now I will continue the pills.

We got pregnant while on the pill so we won't use those anymore. I continued taking the pills while pregnant with him b/c I didn't know I was, but there have been no effects on him. I tried the shot and didn't mind it, but it wasn't convenient to run to the doctor every three months for a shot, so now I use the nuvaring. I love it. Easy to insert/remove and I only have to think about it once a month.

I've been using BC for 10 years on and off. I get off the pill when DH and I want to have a baby. So I have a 7-year old and 2-year old. After my 7 year old was born I tried depo but I put on 25 pounds and they stuck needle into my butt every 13 weeks. So I went back to pills. I am taking ortho novum (the generic version) right now, I tried several kinds but gave me headaches before getting my period. Luckily, this current one is working just fine but noticing that I'm putting a little bit of weight. I think I just need to cut down on chocolates.
I never tried IUD, sponge or any other kind. I think I will take BC for now and will bug DH again to have vasectomy.

I was on seasonale a few years ago = ended up making me not very fun to be around. Ended up going on the patch. That worked well for us. I can't do the pill - always afraid I'd forget. Right now we are using condoms. Was going to get IUD but the place I go wanted the $250 deductible before they put it in, so needless to say it hasn't happened yet. I've been taking my thyroid pill regularly here for the last few weeks (with only 1 day of taking it later in the morning) so I think I may try a low hormone pill. Any suggestions?

Wish I had more help on what to do, I only have advice on what not to do.
I got pregnant with first DS on BC. It reminds me of that scene from the Hugh Grant movie 9 Months, where his GF tells him that the pill is only "97% effective". And he grumbles that what they should really tell you is that it "3% bloody ineffective!"
I also used Depo Provera between #1 and #2. Nightmare. I stopped having periods, which is common, and I thought was really cool at first. But after I stopped getting the shots, it took over a year and some nasty hormone therapy for me to get it back, so that I could get pregnant again. So, don't recommend that, either.
DH is neutered now, so we don't have to worry about it.

I was on BC for about 6 months and it made me sick 24/7. I gave it 6 months (and tried several different pills) before I gave up on it. I guess its the hormones that make me nauseous.
This reminds me of a hilarious SNL skit (there's some language so watch out for the kiddies)
