Chiggers!!!!! (I think).......
Help me, last Sunday I was working in my flower bed, cleaning out weeds. I had shorts and a tank top on. Well, on Sunday night, I thought I got a few mosquito bites on my back. Then woke up in the middle of the night itching terribly...... Now normally, i thought you got chiggers around your ankles, or if you were sitting on the ground, around your underwear line.... Well, I have bites around my underwear line , under my bra line, on my back, around the top of my underwear line, behind my knees, and they are DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!! What can I do besides clear fingernail polish? Sorry in advance if this is TMI for some.... but I need help.......please......

I'm with you, I thought you only got chiggers around your ankles/lower legs.
Sounds more like heat rash to me. Try soaking in a baking soda bath, it should ease the itching and if you can take a benadryl.
Hope you feel better soon.

Do you have ticks in your area? They like the tight areas you described and the tiny hatchlings (seed ticks) are sooo little (smaller than the point of pencil) that you wouldn't see them if you weren't looking for them. Scratching would just make them move.
I recommend a good scrubby bath with oatmeal to help soothe the itch and then use a topical anti-itch ointment.

oh my gosh...I have had a chigger rash for about three days, and it is driving me CRAZY. My hubby told me that they burrow under your skin and that night, I had HORRIBLE nightmares about little critters living on me! IT was TERRIBLE!!!!
I am sooo glad I read that link about them NOT living under your skin...I feel sooooo much better now.
Anyway, I have just been using anti-itch cream and lotion. It seems to be getting better, but my rash is still there. It is around my pantie line....driving me CRAZY!!!!
Hope you are feeling better soon.

They could very well be chiggers, even on your back. Those little boogers will bite you where ever they find soft skin. The back of the knees are quite common as is under the bra, underclothes and waist area, and you don't have to be sitting in the grass to get them that high up on the body. They are not shy about traveling to find the perfect soft spot on your body.
What we use to stop the itch is Lanacane. The spray is good because then you aren't touching the spot and making it itch worse. But around the panty line and other sensitive areas, we use the cream. We use it whenever they start itching, even if that is 6-10 times a day. It doesn't take much spray, just a little shot will stop the itch for a while and then you reapply when it itches again.
Lanacane Maximum Strength contains 20% benzocaine, which is an anesthetic, thereby slightly numbing the skin.

Sheri~
I am miseralbe right along with you!!!!!!
I was weeding my strawberry bed last week and lo and behold the next day I was DYING from around 50 or 60 of those chigger bites too. I have them all around my mid section, thighs, behind my knees, and up my back around my bra line....and a few stray ones on my shoulder blades. However, the WOSRT ones are in and around the unerwear area (don;t think I need to get more graphic than that, you get the idea!)
This was about 10 days ago....I thought I was going to die!!! Really, I sat in a cold bath with epsons crying b/c it itched so bad, I thought "How am I going to deal with this?".....well, here I am, about a week later, and they still itch periodically, but they are totally tolerable! Be careful with scratching, I have a few that I scratched way to much and have scabbed really bad, and bleed...so just a warning.
Oh, and I know that they are chiggers. I happened to have my homorne check last week (I;ve have a hysterecotmy)....anyway, I had my hormone check (this one was like an anuall obgyn appt).....yea, THAT'S what you want to have happen when you look like you have chicken pox on your mid section.....anyway, as soon as she saw them, she exclaimed "CHIGGERS!!" and she proceeded to tell me all about her recent chigger attack. I guess there was some comfort in knowing that;s what they really were....
Hope yours feel better soon, go get some calamine lotion, take cool baths, and if you have any that rub at your shorts hem line, put a band-aid over it so it doesn;t rub (that;s what I did!)Last edited by IntlMom; 07-29-2008 at 10:01 AM.

I'm really lucky. Chiggers don't like me. I've never had a chigger bite in my life. Hubby gets them all the time and I can be working right beside him, following him and not get them. I'm sure it's miserable... I get tick bites and poison ivy and they are plenty itchy!

I would definitely try the Bynadril (sp). Good luck. I hope you feel better soon.

I wonder if a paste of epsom salt & water spread on the bites would help the itching. That is a remedy for poison ivy itching.

When I was a kid, we were told to put vaseline on the chiggers. It was supposed to suffocate them. But, that was a few years ago (OMG, like 30!!).

Chiggers are unendurable. They can indeed drive you mad - even if there are only a few. You have my heartfelt sympathy and empathy. That is a horrible fate. But, eventually, they do get better. In a week or so of real time and a few centuries of psychological time. Hang in there. Give yourself some sort of treat. You really do deserve it.
