Default Heat Exhaustion is no joke. :(

I've always been susceptible to heat stroke/exhaustion because I have very light skin (I'm mostly Irish and German). In 1996, I passed out from heat stroke at a NASCAR race and had to spend time in their sick bay.

Anyways, since I moved to Canada I didn't pay much attention to the heat because a) it's cooler than I grew up with and b) I'm inside alot in the summer time. It's been in the 30s here for the last few days and last night, I slept with a duvet because I can't fall asleep without something heavy on me.

I woke up today at 5:30am after having five hours sleep and took DS to the hospital for his eye appt and some blood work for his metabolics appt in October. Right around 11am, my legs started to hurt really bad and I felt overheated. We got lunch and came home. I had something light to eat (spicy chicken caesar salad and half a can of Coke Zero), took some Tylenol Ultra and laid down. I felt way better when I was laying down but when I got up, oh boy. I couldn't sit up for more than five minutes and even cleaning up the kitchen was impossible. I laid down, took an hour and a half nap and felt slightly better. I went to get back up and I couldn't. I was so nauseous and hot, my entire body ached and I had the biggest headache. I called DH to get him to bring home dinner for the three of them because I was in no shape to eat. He came home, they ate dinner and I was finally able to get up and walk around. I got some ice water and made a coffee mug full of Cup-o-Soup, and that made me feel a ton better. I still have leg pains and a headache, but it definitely wasn't like earlier.

    My lesson? Drink more water.

    Sending big hugs your way!

I've dealt with both sunstroke and heat exhaustion before - neither is anything to mess around with, both are very dangerous. I'm glad you're getting little better!

You are right nothing to mess around with! I hate the heat too! Terrible thing is I live in Florida!!

The older I get the less I can tolerate it. Don't get me wrong I love sunshine but, not the darn 90 plus temps.

Glad to hear you are feeling better! Drink up!

Goodness, sounds like you were pretty sick. Please stay hydrated.....that's the best defense.

Also--since you have suffered from heat exhaustion before, you are much more susceptible to getting it again.

I'm still recovering from my long walk a couple weekends ago...I over hydrated - its almost as bad as dehydration.

    I feel your pain!

it was too hot here yesterday!

my oldest got heatstroke and was out and down from noon til this morning feeling icky and gross. with a few trips to the potty.

    we're staying in today!

    hope you're feeling better!

its supposed to cool off tomorrow!

It was definitely alot better this morning. I went to bed with the window wide open and the wind was blowing something fierce! My curtains were freaking out and I caught the wiff of something weird. I went to the window and noticed right away it was marijuana (which I've smelled before) and as I looked out to the horizon, I saw flashes of light. I thought it was just heat lightning, but then I heard thunder and was so thankful because it'd flush some of the heat away.

I woke up this morning feeling a ton better than I did.

I absolutely hate drinking water but I've been forcing myself lately to drink more. I'm going to buy some of those Crystal Light single pack things and get my water fix that way too. When I was in the Marines during combat training, they'd make you drink 2 canteens of water right when there was a black flag and ugh, I've never seen so many girls throw up water in all my life. That's why I couldn't drink water for the longest time. I have no problem drinking it at my inlaws because for some reason, the water there tastes less horrid than it does here. I think they put more stuff in the water in Calgary.

there was a wicked storm last night....we didn't get much, just the wind.

I found that making a big pot of tea and then dumping it into a big jug and adding some water is a great way to get fluids.

I drink like a fish...but then working as a chef, I had to or we'd get dehydrated.
