Default I did the vaccine thing today

Yes, I broke down and got my son caught up today. Trust me I have put this off for a long time. So many thoughts...This is what I decided.

The ones he got was...the 3rd round of Polio,Pertussis,Rotavirus, Hep B again(I think there is 3 rounds) MMR. But I said at this time I do not want the Varicella(chickenpox) And trust me the nurse pushed this one on me and I explained why I don't feel I need this for my son now and If I change my mind I can get it later. On his shot record, she wrote "mom refused." How sweet as I got them free at the health department because for a round of shots with insurance with a doc here can leave you with a 400 balance.

I hope I got the names right as I am reading the shot record in the dark. lol

Just a simple post because I know now days it can be a big decission for mothers on what to do.

    Hope this helps for anyone.

I don't think that was necessary to put "mom refused" on his card. Seems like she was kinda making a judgment on your decision but putting that there... or I may be paranoid.

How's your little one feeling? Did the shots make him feel icky at all?

I'm glad you were able to come to a decision on it... I'm still trying to wrap my head around this stuff.

I think she put that there because of his age would be a 'normal routine shot.' I guess. It still pissed me off.. I mean just leave the shot record blank for god sakes, than rather writing a comment, ya know?

I gave him Tylenol when we got home and he took a nap. All of the side effects like fever he has never got. He acts like it never has bothered him at all. I guess all kids are different. Moms knows best.... For sure!

Hand written comments are required by documentation regulations. If it was left blank a future reader then must try to figure out if it was just not checked since all the others were given or why it was not administered. Besides, you did refuse it for your child. It isn't a judgement it is a statement.

'patient refused', 'mom refused', 'non-compliant'~ stuff like that is just how medical personnel chart things, it's not a judgement. It's sort of insider speak. I've charted that plenty of times but it wasn't a judgement.

THe chicken one is mandatory to attend school here in GA. I don't know if you can leave it blank (I mean I guess you could) Also before my son could go to the 6th grade, they had to have a paper saying he had the chicken again as a booster...

Arghh, I hate shot time. My son just got his 5 shots and the rotovirus drink last week (he is 10 weeks this week). And of course a few days after his shots he started with this stupid congestion that keeps him up from 3-6 am every night. Not cool since I just got my tubes tied on Tues. and I am in a lot of pain. NJ has made just about everything mandatory, it is driving me nuts. I know some like the MMR and the DTaP, etc. are necessary but things like chickenpox and hepatitis frost my butt because I just think there are too many shots given to little ones nowadays. Not trying to start anything just stating my opinion.

Palooka I'm just curious why don't you want him to have the chicken pox shot. Because I had chicken poxs as a child I take the risk of getting shingles.... Mt younger sister has already had them and she says they are painful and she can get them again.

I want to know why, if you objected to the shot, you also objected to going on record as having objected to the shot?
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Ah, that would make sense why she wrote that. I didn't know they could not just leave it blank. Thanks.

But I said I could get it later when he returned in a few months for his next series. I just didn't want it now. That would have been five shots for one day(crazy they do 4 in a day for a normal routine) and my reasons for not wanting the chickenpox vax is complicated to explain. Trust me that I am not the only parent that feels this way.

Much new info is coming out about vax and what not the parents didn't have to deal with before. As you can see I am not against vax, just picking the ones that I feel are important at this time.

And if anyone of you read my other post...both my other kids had their shots on time. Things like autism(sp) wasn't an issue like it has came out now concerning vax and so many other side affects..

I don't want this to be a debate, more as there is tons of parents that question now all the vax they push and I just have my guard on.

    Thats all....

You are right...there are many women on another board that I belong to who refuse to vaccinate for various reasons.

I agree with you. I have given kids 5 injections at a time and it's not fun for me or them. My kids did not get the varicella vaccine. I saw too many kids come into the office with chicken pox even after having the vaccine, I just didn't think it was necessary.

My youngest is all caught up with his shots until he enters the fifth grade. I held off on the MMR shot until his 4.5yr checkup because of family history with autism and problems surrounding the shot. If there was even a cloud of doubt, I wanted to get past that cloud. I wanted to be totally sure. They don't pressure you here to get shots for your children until it's at the deadline for them to have them. I don't mind if they write 'mom refused' or anything like that because I did refuse. My oldest gets his fifth grade shots while he's in school. They actually come to the school and administer the shots, so it doesn't take out of my schedule and he'll be in an environment where he feels comfortable getting them done.

Crap, that reminds me...I need to fax my oldest's vaccination record to the immunization clinic so they can decide what he needs done. He hasn't had shots since 9/2002, so more than likely he'll need more. I think the US and Canada are on different shot schedules.
