I'm quitting smoking,diet mod question
I've been ill for awhile with what I was told was Menieres Disease and CFIDs, I went to a neurologist recently and he said he doesn't believe it is either of them but it might be Multiple Sclerosis or Arnold Chiari Disease. He asked me why I was still smoking when I was already ill and well, it hit home how stupid I'm being by continuing to do so. I'm going cold turkey again and this time I mean it. My insurance doesn't cover anything and I'm allergic to the patches. My skin blisters bad and my tattoos swell and itch. The gum is just gross. Both are too expensive anyway for me to afford right now.
I have tried looking this up but I don't think I'm searching right. Aren't there diet modifications that will help balance things out while I go through nicotine withdrawal? I read an article somewhere awhile back that if you eat certain foods it helps with the cravings. But I can't find it. I appreciate any ideas or advice, thanks in advance!

First of all I want to wish you the best of luck, on both the medical diagnosis and quitting smoking. As for the diet modification I suggest talking with your doctor. If in fact you have an illness, it may have a big determination on your diet on top of the quitting smoking. Let us know what you find out. I quit smoking cold turkey over 9 years ago so I know how hard it can be and the worry of possibly having MS can't be easy on you. I will keep you in my prayers if that doesn't offend you.

Good luck to you:-) If you want to experience an easy transition, you can consider taking a good B complex, a good magnesium supplement such as Ionic Fizz calcium plus, a complete amino acid and a good Omega 3,6,9...such as hemp protein powder. Let us know how it's going for you. Avoiding processed foods and eating a natural diet will help you too.

Thank you both for the advice. My doctor knows I intend on quitting and hasn't said anything other than "Cut the salt" like always. So I I figured I would kill two birds with one stone. CountryBunpkin- Did you take the above when you were quitting? What do you do when you get a craving? I suppose I could chew gum but I know a lday who went cold turkey and started chewing gum and now she can't go an hour without a piece. I don't want to end up replacing one habit with another. Thanks again to you both.

Sorry I got to this a little late. When I quit smoking, 20 years ago, I just went cold turkey and never started again. I was not taking any supplements at the time either and there were times that I would get a craving, but never caved in. But when my brother decided to quit and was having a hard time doing so, these are the supplements that I suggested to him and he started on them and by day two his cravings were gone and he has not even had a craving since. That will be 5 years in March of 2009. By the way, how are you coming along?

Sorry to have not gotten back to this sooner. I've had headaches and been grumpy as all get out. I caved and smoked and felt even worse. I am waiting for my doctor or a nurse to call me back, I called and asked if any of those vitamins would interfere with their plans for me and my medication. So far it's been a week and no return call.I'm going to call them today actually. So for now I'm going to keep trying to quit and not really beat myself up about it if I am not perfect. I honestly believe I can quit, it's just going to take time.
thanks everyone!
P.S.I meant to say this last time Sassyclass- It does not offend me if you say will you keep me in your prayers. I believe prayer for people no matter their religion is good enough. I hope I did not say anything to lead you to believe I would be offended.

I did a count down to quit...keep a log for a week..when where how many I smoked....The next week I cut 2 ciggerets per day every other day...until I was down to 4 a day...that day I quit...I keep coffee straws around and drank a lot of water...I would chew the straws when I wanted a cig...haven't had one for almost 2 years now...Once in a while I still want want but not as bad as it use to be
