    Unhappy Rapid heartbeat.....

Last Friday night , my husband and I had just gotten home and went out to sit on the deck. While I was sitting there, all of a sudden, my heart started pounding something terrible. So, I went inside and laid down on the couch. It was going so fast, I couldn't even count that fast.... so Dale called the neighbor , who is an EMT, asked him about it, and he thought I should go to the ER.....Wouldn't you know , I have one last payment from the hospital last time to pay this month....anyhow, when I got to the ER, my heart rate was 200. They got me hooked up to monitors, and did an EKG, xray,etc...Well, my heart rate went up to 215 , and was between 200-215 for over an hour.... I was really getting scared. They had me do Vagals, (pushing like having a baby) to try to reset my heartbeat..This didn't work, so they had to give me some medicine thru my IV... Oh, my word, did it hurt....It burnt when it went in, and slowly but surely, my rate started coming down. It took a while, but I finally started to feel better. All blood work came back good, all tests, good. They have put me on some medicine to keep my heart rate more even. I have an appt. at my drs tomorrow.. Does anyone have any ideas or experiences like this ????? Just wondering,,,,, thanks for listening.....

Mine goes a little crazy every now and then too. I take Propranolol to keep it in check when I need it.

It can be a scary thing that's for sure!

I have an irregular heartbeat that comes and goes. Mine is related to a magnesium deficiency. If ever I miss a day of taking it mine goes wild, skipping and/or racing....anyway it's really frightening. You should see a specialist.....only he/she could give some real answers but don't stop until you're satisfied with the answers....

It sounds like you may have a magnesium deficiency. Some Dr's will do a magnesium blood serum test if you ask them to. Magnesium regulates over 300 metabolic functions that go on in the body and most people are deficient in it. The heart really depends on magnesium .

I have an appt. today with my regular doctor, so I will mention the magnesium deficiency to her....I just don't want to have to go thru a ton of expensive tests, since I just had them done almost exactly a year ago, and as I said, I am one pymt away from paying those off..... of course, Murphy has found me again......

My heart had been racing sometimes also. The dr changed my blood pressure meds to one that includes a heart rate reducer. I've only been on it for about 2 weeks but haven't had any problems so far.

I have folic acid deficient anemia so don't know if that contributes to mine racing or not.

Hopefully the dr can get things straightened out for you soon.

Back from the dr. , and , guess what , forgot to ask about the magnesium defieciency....duh. But, they are going to put me on a heart monitor for 24 hrs. to see if there are any problems there. She said if there is , she will refer me to a heart doctor...... So, I guess we will see in a week or so... Thank you all for your kind words, you don't know how much they are appreciated......

I wore a halter monitor too....the heart dr. never even mentioned that it could have been something as simple as the magnesium deficiency. So keep that in mind when they start recommending procedures and meds.
