Rapid heartbeat Update....
Well , I wore a heart monitor for 24 hrs. and my heart rate was still a little elevated.... So my dr sent me to a cardiologist....That was on Tuesday, ok, no big deal, they just wanted to make sure I was on the correct meds and had all the tests done they had wanted...So I go in, thinking ok, they will just tell me its a fluke thing, and stay on the meds for a while and I will be okay..... The dr comes in , says here is what is wrong with you.
You have extra cells on a nerve in your heart and I think you need surgery called Ablation... This means they will go INTO MY HEART with a catheter and laser away the extra cells...outpatient surgery, but will keep you overnight to make sure all is okay...
WHAT????????? NOT what I was prepared for...He said I could also take the meds , not have surgery, but that because I am fairly young (41) it is going to keep happening with more frequency...(racing heart) and I will have to go to the ER to stop it each time. He said it is a common surgery and I will get tired of it happening.. He predicted I would have the surgery within 2 yrs.....
So, I call my husband and tell him about the surgery and he says "that is where they laser the cells in your heart" and I said "How do you know that????"
Turns out one of the guys he used to work with, his wife had this done and they missed the cells and got the nerve instead, so they had to put in a pacemaker and she has had alot of problems......
So, I have decided to talk to several people (one of my customers is a Dr. don't know the correct title, she is an RN, but a dr of that, has been a dean at colleges, got nursing programs started at ITT), my nurse practioner, and the DR that would possibly do the surgery, i will see him in Februay......
Anyway, have any of you had any experience with this or know anyone who has had it? I would appreciate any advice anyone has for me....
Thank you,
SheriSheri

I've never heard of that. I know it's hard to not worry when you know of someone who had problems but any surgery even minor has risks. To me it seems like in the long run this would be beneficial. I mean it doesn't seem good for the heart to be stressing on a regular basis.
I would just make sure the Dr has done the procedure regularly which makes for less mistakes. You've got a few months to research and get used to the idea so that's good.
Hopefully everything will go well when/if you decide to have the surgery.

Never heard of anyone having it or having it done personally but I do live a pretty sheltered life over here. I'd ask how many times the dr. has done the procedure. If there is another dr. in your area who does it I'd ask for a consult (2nd opinion) and ask how many times he's done it. I'm all for using the guy with lots of experience, myself.

My daughter had this surgery when she was 7, she is 9 now. She did very well. They tried to control her heart with medication but it just wasn't working, so they decided to do the ablation surgery. She lost her sight one day because her heart was beating so fast her brain wasn't getting enough blood. She had been complaining of headaches and earthquakes in her head. It was an in and out procedure. She had a 2 tiny holes on the top of her thighs.
If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them for you. Just PM me.
