Question losing weight and the holidays How?

The holidays and trying to still lose weight have me a bit nervous.

At the doc today she mentioned how the holidays are hard for everyone and everyone has to keep tabs on the weight then.

That made me think about it. How does one handle the holidays Halloween, Thanksgiving, the whole Christmas season while trying to lose weight?

How are you going to handle it? What do you do?

Thumbs up The diet I am on...

is a Breast Cancer diet ( ULTRA healthy...9+ fruits and vegetables a day...this is a lifestyle diet, not a weightloss diet), so when I began it I knew that in order to stay on it, I would have to make allowances. SO, with that in mind, I do the diet 6 days a week and 1 day a week I eat what I want...however if the week coming up has a department food day and the company holiday feast, I choose one or the other OR I may have the meal at one and desert on the other AND I may end up having a "dinner" meal at lunch and my salad for dinner...Basically, give your self 1 cheat day a week and make a choice. Good luck. Take care and God bless.

Thanks for the ideas I so need all the ideas I can get.

I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to do it.

It isn't so much holiday parties but more of holiday traditions and treats at home that are going to be a stumbling block. Like the yummy Halloween candy and the wonderfully yummy green bean casserole with white cheddar and Mom's pecan pie she makes for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The homemade fudge at Christmas and cinnamon sugar roasted pecans.

Then it starts to get cold and walking on ice, especially with a pull you around dog is not safe.

Any holiday music workout out there?

I find that I feel a lot better if I ramp up my exercising. Now, I'm not a fan of exercise AT ALL, but after about a week into it doing at least 30 minutes every night, I do start to enjoy it. My body starts to feel a lot better, and I find that I want to exercise more than 30 minutes some nights.

I've also finally learned (I think!) to not beat myself up if I have a bad day. For example, last Saturday I was really craving something sweet. I thought of what I could make that wouldn't be entirely bad. I came up with oatmeal raisin cookies. Now, I licked the bowl and everything but when I honestly calculated my Weight Watchers points, I went over only 6. And I had 10 in reserve anyway. So I didn't feel that bad.

I'm not going to be perfect at weight loss, but I'm going to do the very best I can and take advantage of those times when I'm particularly ambitious with the exercising.

You know what? I've been working on this for 3 years now and this is what works for me.....I plan for a couple of 'free days'. Not to say it's ok to eat from the time I get up until I go to bed but I allow for the pumpkin pie, fudge, etc.... . I continue to workout until the day of, workout the day after, if I can I get family members to go for a leisurely walk with me on the day of after a big meal..... . Don't beat yourself up, don't weigh the day after, drink lots and lots of water all the while.....don't try to 'lose' through Thanksgiving....just maintain. It works and then you can get back to business as usual

I make sure that I keep up on my workouts through out the holidays, then I eat what I want with moderation in mind! I have never had any problems with weight gain over the holidays, doing it this way. But I do workout 5-6 days a week for at least 30 minutes, and for some that might be too much, but for me it works!

I also don't go crazy with holiday meals. Tomorrow, I will have small helpings of the things that I enjoy, and then I'll choose between a glass of wine or a small helping of dessert! I just try to keep in mind that a holiday isn't a license to go totally crazy and I still have to keep portions in mind! Good luck!
