I have had the flu once in my life...guess when? It was the year I was required to get a mandatory flu shot by the company that I worked for!

Never again, as long as I stay healthy, eat right and exercise, my body seems to have it's own natural defense against it!

Wow, that article is something else. I only needed to get this far to realize what I thought of it:

It is impossible to prevent disease by artificial means.
I did read through the rest of it though, and the logic is just as good. Because it's grown in an egg, it'll put you in a coffin? Really?

I got the flu every winter until last year. I'd be sick from thanksgiving right on past new years. You know what was different last year? I got a flu shot.

I also do not get the flu shot. Thank God, I stay pretty healthy and just can't justify getting it. I am a little leery of all the "shots" that are out there.

Hope all stays health during flu season.

And sleep! Don't forget sleep. I swear since I started sleeping better, I am hardly ever sick (knock wood). I also think finding ways to de-stress help so much! When I was majorly stressed out, I was ALWAYS sick.

And those fruits and veggies are important.

Good for you! It sounds like you are really into holistic health as well? And also, I LOVE Harvest Health! I go to the one in Hudsonville and could spend an entire day in there just browsing. That's where I buy most of our food. Nice people and clean eating to protect the immune system:-)

Hi Cheryl, Good to see you! Sleep is good advice because that is when the immune system is in full force repairing itself.

From what I have researched, it all comes down to how strong ones immune system is. People who have strong immune systems do not become ill.
Amy is right on though! It is a personal choice. thanks to all of you who replied.

My family has been blessed with fairly strong immune systems, so we do not get flu shots.

Dh gets one every year as he's diabetic. I never got one until Friday - I got my first. I did it only because I was diagnosed with asthma about three years ago. It rarely bothers me - I use my inhaler a couple of times a year it's so minor. However, the last week of July this year I got a little cold - very minor - runny nose was about it. But that little cold kicked my asthma into high alert - I was miserable for over a month. So, I decided if a little cold can make my minor asthma misbehave then getting the flu would probably half kill me. I decided to get the shot.

I've never had the flu before so I'll update at the end of winter to let you know if I get it this year!

I have gotten the flu shot every year for the past 20 years. I have never gotten sick with the flu and I have never had a reaction. I figure by now I must have had all of the mixes they make. I also have asthma and my doctor insists that the minute I have a cold coming on to make an appointment because it will travel quickly to my lungs. Sooooooooo that is my reasoning but that doesn't mean everyone has to follow my opinion. Stay healthy and happy for 2009.
