The natural way that I would suggest and that works for me (I never took a drug for mine) is to eat a healthy diet consisting of whole foods and at least 50% raw. Try to get at least 9 to 11 servings of fruits and veggies per day. I get between 15 to 20 servings per day. I get half of these in my green smoothies that I make every morning. I get the rest of them from the raw fruits and salads that I eat throughout the day. Look for whole foods that are high in Amino acids, Hemp protein powder, wild caught fish, pastured eggs, raw milk cheese, cold processed whey protein powder, and of course a complete amino acid supplement. pasture fad organic chicken is a good source too. You also want to make sure that you are getting your omega 3's! Wild caught fish, pastured eggs, raw milk and raw milk cheeses, flaxseeds, hemp protein powder, quality fish oil and krill oil, raw almonds and walnuts, etc are all good sources. Next would be a good natural B complex supplement. I take the www.vitacost.com NSI brand. Also from Vitacost, A wonderful magnesium supplement called Ionic Fizz. The calcium Plus is the one that I take. It is rasberry flavor and you just mix it in your water and drink it. magnesium deficiency is a huge problem in this country and is responsible for a host of health problems. Magnesium play's a huge role in your bodies metabolic function. I take my Fizz about an hour before bedtime because it is very soothing and magnesium helps your body relax. Also, I alway's make sure my water is pure. I never go near city water! I stay away from fluoride and chlorine because it is highly toxic and very damaging to your entire system. i also use only organic, pure personal care products.
The next thing would be to get out and move your body! Exercise and blood flow are crucial to combating depression and it is just plain good for your overall health. We are creatures that were meant to move around. But you also want to be careful not to overdo it either. Too much can actually break your body down fro oxidative stress. Also, I see that you live in NY, so with a colder season upon you and the limited sunshine, I would suggest that you include at least 2000IU's of vitamin D3 on a daily basis. I just posted a great article here on what a super nutrient Vitamin D is.
Here is a very good interview with Dr. Gabriel Cousens. You might find this to be very interesting:-) Good luck and if you do decide to go the natural route, let us know about your progress.

Just one more thing, I helped my brother get off from paxil. This lifestyle that I help him with changed his entire outlook on life. It also made it much easier to get off from paxil.

My mom swears by St John's wort. You should also talk to your Dr before stopping any anti-depressives as you may need to be weaned.

First word of advice:
SEE a DOCTOR to be weaned off of ANY drug!
If you wish to "go natural", then please seek the advice of a licensed, Homeopathic/Naturopathic Physician (not from folk like us on the internet. We can certainly offer each other support and give suggestions to be reviewed with a/your Doc, but it can be dangerous to take herbs and supplements without consulting a Physician). Here's a link to help locate a Naturopath:
http://www.naturopathic.org/findannd...e=&search=Find
There are 41 such Docs in NY, so there is surely one near you...Heck, I even found one in Alabama (and I see a Therapist who also supports my decisions re: natural healthcare)!
I tried St. John's Wort and some other herbal "remedies" on the advice of a very knowledgeable, well-meaning, and caring Friend who owns a Health Food Store. I ended up in Hospital with a severe (anaphylactic) reaction to the herbs (specifically SJW and echinacea). I now see a Naturopathic Physician who works with me in determining the best treatment modalities for my health concerns.
Be well....and please, BE SAFE!
