I don't know whether I believe this or not. It seems to me that if they knew what caused cancer, then they would know how to cure cancer.

I'm sure there are people in this world who have gotten cancer who have not been sugar addicts.

I've also heard that meat consumption, as well as poultry, causes cancer. So, we get rid of sugar, then we get rid of meat. What's left?

Well there are studies that say dairy causes cancer, cell phones, and microwaves and even certain products we use on our bodies. heh. It is funny how they can claim it causes it but can't cure it..hmm.

I don't think sugar is the root of all evil like some do. Maybe to some it can be and others maybe not. I think they just do not know for sure.

In our home we use raw agave and raw honey as sweetners. I think that the last time I purchase a bag of refined sugar was about 6 year's ago. When I bake, I use organic brown sugar. I checked a good book out of my library over the summer called SUGAR SHOCK! If anyone is interested in learning more about how devastating refined sugar can be to your health, here is the link to the book at amazon . You can also check and see if your local library has it.

    Such a GOOD book.

I second that on suggesting this book. It is one of the very first books that I purchased from Amazon and it has a wealth of information in it. Glad you have this one in your library, asimplegirl.

Exclamation My 2 cents worth as a 3 year breast cancer survivor...

When I asked my surgeon what HE feels causes breast cancer, he stated that he believes it is environmental (basically MANY causes). Here is a link from another forum I am on for breast cancer and another member who saw Dr. Pegram (he worked with Dr. Slamon...Harry Conick played him in the Lifetime movie last month...Living Proof) http://www.her2support.org/barbara.htm. She taped their conversation and typed them out and these are the responses. The section I am most refering to is 3/4th's down under "Do positive or negative hormones make a difference? Odd, that you ask but my 7 year old asked last night if we were vegetarian? I told him, no, we are omnivores. Another good book is The Omnivores Dilema by Michael Pollan which basically says we should eat like our grandparents (those from 100 years ago) ate...I use my grandmothers cookbook...she was born in 1892 and the book is dated 1908...pretty cool. MY belief is that MANY things cause cancer (I try to eat only whole/organic foods) and yes, sugar is one (I WON"T give up sugar though, I get 1 "treat" a week and I would RATHER have REAL sugar than refined sugar as well as REAL chocolate rather than like a Milky Way that tastes like plastic...hmm Cadbury recalled many of their chocolate due to BPA particles being put in it in China...BPA is what plastic is made of). Think about it, but in order to have a PET scan they give you glucose to show any cancer...just something to ponder. Take care and God bless.

Well, I think I am calling my dentist to get my sweet tooth pulled. I love sweets and I know they are not good for the body but now I am really going to try and lay off of them. Of course, Christmas is almost here so that is a bummer but I know I will feel better.

Thanks for sharing the article. We gave up sugar and white flour last year as my husband continues to fight Melanoma and is still on chemo. As a side benefit of making this change I lost 35 pounds without dieting or making any other changes. I am learning how to modify recipes to use whole grains and learning how to use honey, date sugar and agave nectar and other sweeteners. It has been a challenge but is definitely worth the effort. It is really frightening that they put sugar and corn syrup in everything. I spend a lot of time reading labels and usually end up making whatever I need from scratch.

Luckily, sugar makes me feel just awful when I eat it anymore, so I have avoided it more in the past few years.
